Two newly published research articles in the International Journal of Education, Research, and Innovation Perspectives feature the work of Dr. Carmelita S. Quinto, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, adding to the University’s contributions to educational research and classroom practice.

The first article, “Enhancing Decoding Fluency of Learners through Gamified Phonics-Based Intervention,” was co-authored with Nelson D. Sia. It explores the use of game-based phonics activities to help learners improve their decoding fluency, a key skill in reading.

The second study, “Drama-Based Instruction in Enhancing Learners’ Story Element Recognition,” was co-authored with Jovel Morbos Capitle. It examines how drama-based instruction can help learners recognize story elements and take part in engaging classroom learning activities.

Both articles were published in Volume 2, Number 8 (2026) of the journal, a peer-reviewed, open-access publication that shares research on education, teaching methods, and innovation. Through these studies, Dr. Quinto and her co-authors contribute practical ideas that educators can consider when developing educational strategies to support reading and student learning.

The research also reflects the value of collaboration in developing approaches that respond to learners’ needs. By examining teaching methods grounded in research, the studies add to discussions on how classroom instruction can support learning and improve educational practice.

UL’s research contributions support wider efforts to strengthen education through new ideas and evidence-based teaching approaches. These efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. SDG 4: Quality Education is supported through research on reading development and teaching strategies that can improve learning experiences. SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure is reflected in the use of innovative instructional approaches that encourage new ways of teaching and learning.

The University of Luzon congratulates Dr. Quinto and her co-authors on their published work and their contribution to educational research.
