University of Luzon Held its 65th Capping, Pinning, and Candle Lighting Ceremony for Future Nurses

A defining milestone in the journey toward professional nursing unfolded as student nurses embraced one of the profession’s most meaningful traditions during the 65th Capping, Pinning, and Candle Lighting Ceremony. Guided by the theme, “Lights of Compassion, Pillars of Healing: Empowering Nurses to Brighten the Future Care,” the ceremony symbolized their commitment to compassionate care, professional competence, and lifelong service in promoting human health.
The University of Luzon formally celebrated the occasion on May 22, 2026, bringing recognition to the next generation of nursing practitioners. The ceremony was held from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at City Deluxe Restaurant, Dagupan City.
The event featured an inspiring keynote address from Ms. Mardy Fernandez-Banay, Assistant Chief Nurse of Luzon Medical Center, who emphasized the importance of clinical dedication, ethical practice, and compassionate service in addressing the evolving healthcare needs of communities. Adding an international perspective, Prof. Angel Samson Reyna, Jr., Director of the International Relations Office, encouraged students to pursue professional training, global competence, and lifelong learning as they prepare for future healthcare careers.
The program concluded with State of the College of Nursing presented by Prof. Dr. Jordan Hiso Llego, Dean of the College of Nursing and Midwifery, followed by his closing remarks that challenged students to uphold excellence in education, practical training, and patient-centered care throughout their professional journey.
This longstanding tradition reflects the University’s commitment to shaping future healthcare professionals grounded in excellence, compassion, and ethical service. This milestone supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being by reminding future nurses of their commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care and the promotion of human health. It also advances SDG 4: Quality Education by highlighting the values of a supportive learning environment and social responsibility that define the University’s nursing education.
