Determination, discipline, and strong competitive spirit marked the performance of the University of Luzon Golden Tigers Taekwondo Team at the Regional Inter School Taekwondo Championship.

The competition was held on July 18, 2026, at the Abra Gymnasium in Bangued, Abra, bringing together student-athletes who competed in various poomsae and sparring events. The tournament provided the athletes with an opportunity to test their techniques, focus, and preparation against competitors from different schools.

Representing the University of Luzon, 11 student-athletes secured medals across different divisions. Juliann Benedict H. Dawana won gold in Poomsae, while John Micheal C. Rivera earned bronze in Fin Weight (Advance 1). Rublan Almonte and Mecca Angel O. Angelito each claimed gold in Fly Weight (Black Belts).

Michaela Shane Carrera added a silver medal in the Cadet Division (Advance 1), while Ma. Johnella Alexandra M. Alarcio and Era Raejin C. Sarmiento earned bronze in Fin Weight (Black Belts) and Poomsae, respectively. Jan Vher Corpuz and Benjamin Salviejo secured gold and silver in Feather Weight (Advance 1), while Jeanne Kaye V. Reyes and Jace Juanima earned bronze in Fin Weight (Advance 1) and Fin Weight (Black Belts).

Their performance reflects the skills developed through consistent training and guidance from Head Coach Bernard D. Gonzales, Coach Earl Maynard C. Sarmiento, and Coach Carl Labasan. Their preparation helped the student-athletes develop proper techniques, maintain focus during their matches, and approach each event with discipline and confidence. The competition also gave the Golden Tigers valuable experience in applying their training in an actual competitive setting.

Beyond the results, participation in taekwondo gives students opportunities to develop qualities that can support them both inside and outside the training area. Regular practice encourages discipline, patience, physical fitness, confidence, and respect for others, while competitions allow athletes to learn from both their successes and areas for improvement. These experiences help student-athletes continue developing their skills while balancing their responsibilities as members of the University of Luzon community.

Sports participation contributes to student development by promoting healthy habits, discipline, and practical learning. These efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being is supported by active lifestyles and physical fitness developed through sports participation. SDG 4: Quality Education is advanced through practical training that builds skills, character, confidence, and opportunities for student achievement beyond the classroom.
