University of Luzon Delegation Participates in 44th National Folk Dance Workshop and Festival

A strong commitment to preserving Filipino traditions continues to define the University of Luzon’s cultural arts initiatives. This was demonstrated through the participation of UL delegates in the 44th National Folk Dance Workshop and Festival, reaffirming the institution’s dedication to promoting the country’s rich cultural heritage through the performing arts.
The week-long event was conducted from May 17 to 23, 2026, in Mandurriao, Iloilo City. Representing the University were Prof. Restituto O. Fernandez, Director for Cultural Affairs; Prof. Daniel Xerxes S. Padrid, BPEd Program Coordinator and University of Luzon Theater and Dance Company (ULTDC) Coordinator; together with ULTDC members Rhedlen Infante and John Lloyd Cruz.
The festival gathered educators, performers, and cultural advocates from across the Philippines for workshops, performances, and collaborative activities centered on Philippine folk dance traditions. Through professional training and active learning, participants refined their artistic skills, and strengthened their appreciation of the country’s diverse folk dances.
The University of Luzon continues to champion programs that preserve Filipino identity while expanding opportunities for professional education beyond the classroom. Participation in national cultural initiatives strengthens the University’s role in developing creative, socially responsible individuals who value heritage, artistic excellence, and lifelong growth.
The activities of the National Folk Dance Workshop and Festival align with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting professional education, active learning, and artistic development through cultural engagement; SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by safeguarding and celebrating the nation’s cultural heritage while encouraging appreciation of Filipino traditions; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening collaboration among educational institutions, cultural organizations, and performing arts communities in advancing heritage preservation and cultural exchange.
