Posted on 13th of Aug 2024 by UL AdministratorThe University of Luzon (UL) College of Nursing and Midwifery (CONM) successfully conducted its annual departmental orientation for the Academic Year 2024–2025 on August 1, 2024, marking a pivotal moment in the preparation of its student body. This comprehensive college-wide undertaking was designed not only for the incoming cohort of freshmen and transferees but also for the returning upperclassmen, underscoring the institution’s commitment to continuous engagement and holistic preparation for all Luzonians entering the challenging yet rewarding healthcare profession. This traditional gathering serves a vital dual function: ensuring that new students are fully oriented and aware of the institution’s policies, academic standards, and collegiate culture, while simultaneously fostering a supportive network within the discipline. It is during this event that the upperclassmen formally meet their freshmen brothers and sisters, creating intentional opportunities to socialize, build essential connections, and establish robust professional and personal relations that are foundational to navigating the demands of the Nursing field. The culture cultivated by the CONM emphasizes that success in healthcare is a collective endeavor, requiring peer mentorship and solidarity from the outset.
A significant highlight of this year’s orientation centered on expanding the professional horizons of the students by addressing the increasing demand for Filipino nurses in the international arena. The College proactively prepared its Luzonians for their near future by focusing on the promising opportunities for work abroad following the completion of their Nursing Degree. To provide expert insight into this trajectory, the College welcomed esteemed guests, Mrs. Mildred Palisoc, the Chief Executive Officer of RTP Travel and Recruitment Agency, accompanied by Mr. Rolando T. Palisoc. Their session provided attendees with practical knowledge, shared experiences, and valuable perspectives on navigating the complexities of international recruitment and employment. By integrating this forward-looking discussion, the College ensures its curriculum and guidance align with global professional realities, preparing graduates to excel anywhere in the world. The comprehensive nature of the orientation, which balances academic readiness, peer integration, and global career planning, firmly positions UL’s future nurses as “future-ready” professionals equipped for successful and fulfilling lives in their chosen vocation. This initiative reaffirms the University of Luzon’s core philosophy: it is not about the success of one, but the success of all its constituents working toward a shared, prosperous future.
The annual College of Nursing and Midwifery orientation and its focus on international career readiness directly align with several key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), demonstrating the University of Luzon’s broader commitment to global development. Specifically, this activity powerfully addresses SDG 4: Quality Education by ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, preparing students not just for local licensure but for globally competitive practice. By training future healthcare professionals, the College contributes directly to the advancement of SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, as these graduates will go on to fill critical roles in health systems both domestically and internationally. Furthermore, the inclusion of recruitment pathways and discussions on working abroad strongly supports SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. By creating strategic linkages that facilitate overseas employment, the University is actively promoting sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth and productive employment, enabling its graduates to achieve successful careers and contribute to global economic development while upholding the highest standards of the Nursing discipline.
