The University of Luzon’s commitment to forging future leaders was recently underscored by the successful staging of the professional seminar, “Thriving in the Competitive World: Developing Business Acumen for Aspiring Business Professionals.” Organized and hosted by the International Group, a cohort of six dedicated Business Administration students, the event took place on December 17, 2024, and was attended by 65 Luzonians eager to enhance their readiness for the professional world. As a practical and enriching requirement for the Integration, Fieldtrips, and Seminar subject, the initiative was designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world business dynamics, equipping aspiring professionals with the critical knowledge and skills necessary for success in today’s demanding corporate landscape.

The comprehensive seminar was structured into two highly informative sessions featuring industry veterans. The morning segment focused on strategic planning, featuring the expertise of Ms. Ann R. Avelino, Operations Manager at Wingyard SM Dagupan. Ms. Avelino delivered a compelling talk entitled “Mastering Strategic Decision Making in the Competitive Market,” providing attendees with invaluable insights into the intricacies of navigating complex market dynamics. Her presentation emphasized the fundamental processes required to analyze diverse business environments, anticipate shifts, and make informed, strategic decisions that drive organizational growth and resilience. The session was particularly beneficial for Luzonians looking to cultivate a strong analytical foundation for high-level management roles.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to the essential element of client retention and relationship building. Ms. Annaliza D. Joves, Application and Collection Unit Head at Dagupan Electric Cooperative, shared her expertise on the second critical topic: “The Art of Customer Relationship Management in the Competitive Marketplace.” Ms. Joves’s discussion highlighted that technology and strategy, while vital, must be supported by a robust approach to customer experience. Her insights emphasized the paramount importance of cultivating and maintaining strong, enduring customer relationships, positioning effective Customer Relationship Management (CRM) as a non-negotiable factor for achieving sustained competitive advantage and long-term business success. The practical takeaways from both speakers provided a well-rounded view of the internal strategic planning and external relationship dynamics essential for thriving businesses.

The success of this highly collaborative endeavor is a testament to the dedication of the University of Luzon’s community. Deep appreciation is extended to both distinguished guest speakers for their engaging and insightful talks, which significantly enriched the learning experience of the participating Luzonians. The University further acknowledges the unwavering guidance provided by Dean Dr. Amalia G. Dela Cruz throughout the planning and execution phases. Special recognition is due to the International Group for their exceptional hard work and organizational acumen, including team leader Alyzza Mae Manzon and members Justin Quisay, Princess Lea Birog, Maricel Caldito, Jennifer Pansoy, and Edmon Tamondong. Their successful execution of this high-level professional event demonstrates the caliber of future business leaders being developed at the University of Luzon. Together, the faculty, administration, and students continue to drive initiatives that develop the superior business acumen required for the leaders of tomorrow.

These collaborative and educational activities align directly with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reinforcing the University of Luzon’s global commitment to sustainable development. Specifically, the seminar strongly supports SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities through the practical application of business administration knowledge and the transfer of industry expertise. Furthermore, by equipping students with high-demand skills in strategic decision-making and customer relationship management, the seminar directly contributes to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, fostering the development of a skilled workforce that is prepared to contribute to productivity, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic output within the region and beyond.
