University of Luzon Alumnus Earns Multiple Taekwondo Medals in the United States

Years of training, discipline, and practical experience in sports continue to shape the journey of University of Luzon alumnus Kenneth Ryan P. Soriano, who has earned multiple medals in taekwondo competitions in the United States.
Soriano, a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering graduate from the University of Luzon Class of 2006, began his education in Dagupan before pursuing his professional and athletic journey abroad.
His recent results include a silver medal in Team Poomsae at the 2026 AAU National Taekwondo Championships, held from June 28 to July 4, 2026. The competition provided another opportunity for Soriano to apply his skills and experience in taekwondo at the national level.
Earlier in the year, he earned gold medals in Sports Poomsae and Traditional Poomsae at the AAU Taekwondo Central Region National Qualifier on April 18. He also won two bronze medals in the same events during the Michigan Taekwondo Championship on March 14.
Before moving to the United States, Soriano served as a coach and instructor at the University of Luzon, YMCA, Hundred Islands Taekwondo Club, and Mother Goose Taekwondo Club. He also coached the Dagupan City Team, Regional PRISAA Team, and Region I delegation to the Palarong Pambansa. He now works as a coach, trainer, and instructor at Lee’s Martial Arts Academy in Cary, Illinois.
His journey reflects how education, professional training, and practical training can help develop skills that extend beyond the classroom. Through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Soriano’s continued participation in sports supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by encouraging physical activity and an active lifestyle. His experience in coaching and training also contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education through skills development and continuous learning. His work in the United States further relates to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through career development and the use of professional skills.
