University of Luzon Advances as Finalist in TIMPUYOG ti Amianan 2026

Luzonian representatives are set to bring their knowledge, skills, and professional training to TIMPUYOG ti Amianan 2026: ASEAN Conference and Competitions, strengthening the University of Luzon’s participation in academic and cultural activities.

The conference and competitions will be hosted by the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. Organized in coordination with CHED Regional Office I, the gathering will bring together higher education institutions for activities centered on knowledge sharing, skills development, and ASEAN-related engagement.

Among the participating institutions, University of Luzon has secured finalist slots in three categories: the ASEAN Mobility Program Sharing and Research Forum for Faculty, the ASEAN Mobility Program Sharing and Research Forum for Non-Teaching Staff, and the ASEAN Culinary Showcase. The University will also be represented by its Debate Team in the ASEAN Debate Tournament.

Preparations for the debate competition were already underway before the conference. On August 18, 2026, Debate Team members Jazmine Kaye B. Prestoza and Venice Alexis Ico joined the ASEAN Debate Tournament Virtual Training with their coach, Prof. Richard Dhean F. Villamor.

Organized by CHED Regional Office I with the UP Baguio Debate Varsity, the training introduced speaker roles, types of motions, Points of Information, argument-building techniques, and debate strategies. A sample debate further allowed participants to apply the concepts discussed during the session.

These preparations will support the UL Debate Team as it joins 14 higher education institutions in the regional competition. Through its participation, University of Luzon provides its representatives with opportunities to apply their skills, share knowledge, and engage with peers from other institutions.

The activities also support continued learning and cooperation beyond the classroom. These efforts contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. SDG 4: Quality Education is advanced through learning opportunities and skills development; SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions is supported through informed debate, dialogue, and responsible expression; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals is strengthened through cooperation among University of Luzon, CHED Regional Office I, and other higher education institutions.
