SHS Week Nov 25 2022

Senior high school is typically the time in a student’s life that they look back on as being the most memorable because it marks the transition between secondary and tertiary education. The strongest friendships have already developed by this time, students are beginning to get ready for college’s more liberal environment, and the impending separation from friends starts to become a consideration. Nevertheless, despite all of these positive attributes, this stage in a student’s life tends to be the most disruptive, as is the case with all transitional phases. The major decisions begin to emerge, such as where to study in college, whether they will remain with their friends or need to part ways, and what course to enroll in, among a multitude of other considerations. As a result, it is the initiative of the university to make their final years of high school as enjoyable as possible and to organize events that will facilitate the formation of their fondest memories with their peers.

SHS Week 2022 (Senior High School Week) at the University of Luzon began on November 22 and concluded four days later, on November 25. During this time, a large number of activities were held in various areas of the campus, all of which were geared towards senior high school students. The first day saw a variety of competitions that were more academic in nature, such as oration, essay writing, quiz bees, and debates. This allowed senior high school students to demonstrate their academic prowess and hone their public speaking abilities. The schedule for the remainder of the nearly week-long event was announced on the same day. The second day of the event, the 23rd, had a greater emphasis on creativity and the arts. The 24th was centered on singing contests and a pageant. And finally, on the 25th, there was a dance competition followed by the awarding of the winners.

Our senior high school students will look back on this event with great fondness, as it can be considered their last hurrah before leaving their teenage years and becoming young adults. Life is comprised of distinct phases, each with its own advantages and disadvantages, but it is ultimately a journey that each and every one of us must take or has taken. The high school experience is irreplaceable and therefore invaluable. Consequently, we recognize that, as an educational institution, we must strike a delicate balance between academics and enjoyment. In the end, students learn most effectively when they are having fun.
