17.2.4 Collaboration for SDG Best Practice

LANGUAGE & CULTURE EXCHANGE WEBINAR

The University of Luzon strengthens its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals through active international collaboration anchored on the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the University of Luzon College of Education and the Youth Life Formation Center (Myanmar). The MOA affirms the shared mission of both institutions to enhance basic education and includes provisions for:

“cooperative projects on sustainable development goals; sharing of service facilities and academic resources; and coordinating immersion or student-teaching programs to promote community- and academic-related activities.”

In alignment with this agreement, the University implemented the international outreach webinar “Language & Culture Exchange” on October 24 and 26, 2023, organized by the Language Society (LASO) in partnership with faculty. This activity directly operationalizes the MOA by providing a learning platform for Myanmar students focused on comparative language use, cultural understanding, and global communication skills.

The two-day webinar featured interactive sessions on polite expressions, the 5W questions, and intercultural instructional strategies, complemented by research-based inputs on cultural competence and reflective learning. Storytelling and cultural sharing activities enabled participants to examine and compare linguistic and cultural practices across contexts.

Through this international academic engagement, the University contributes to:

• SDG 4 (Quality Education): by offering accessible, globally informed learning opportunities that enhance communication, cultural awareness, and educational competencies;

• SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): by implementing concrete joint activities arising from an established international partnership, promoting sustained collaboration, knowledge exchange, and mutual capacity-building.

The successful conduct of the “Language & Culture Exchange” webinar demonstrates the University’s proactive role in advancing the SDGs through meaningful, sustained international partnerships created under the MOA.
