Posted on 20th of Jun 2025 by UL AdministratorOn June 20, 2025, the University of Luzon’s College of Computer Studies proudly represented the institution at the National AI Prompt Design Challenge, hosted by Angeles University Foundation (AUF). With the full support of the University of Luzon and the encouragement of Dean Dr. Diosdado C. Caronongan, a team of dedicated Luzonians engaged in a national competition focused on developing AI-powered solutions through generative AI and no-code tools.
The University of Luzon’s delegation included faculty member Mr. Cee Jay Lomibao, alongside students Loisa M. Caronongan, Nathaniel A. Biagtan, Russel I. Villanueva, Joshua D. Loyola, Jayven Mae T. Hadloc, and Rocelle Ann F. Hornada. Their participation underscores the university’s unwavering commitment to providing students with cutting-edge skills in AI innovation and practical problem-solving.
The event commenced with an intensive three-hour bootcamp facilitated by TRAITS Interactive. Participants gained invaluable insights into creating functional AI tools using prompt engineering without the need for traditional coding. A significant emphasis was placed on the principles of responsible AI development, covering crucial aspects of ethics, privacy, and security.
A key highlight of the challenge was the mentorship provided by Mr. Kevin Shepherdson, CEO of Straits Interactive. Mr. Shepherdson guided participants in leveraging Capabara, Straits Interactive’s next-generation AI platform, offering expert insights into building secure, sustainable, and impactful AI applications, even for those with limited technical backgrounds.
Following the bootcamp, teams entered a rigorous three-hour challenge, tasked with transforming their innovative ideas into fully functional AI chatbots and applications. Submissions will be meticulously judged on criteria including Functionality, User Experience (UX/UI), Innovation, Benefit & Potential, and Security & Ethical Standards.
This national-level competition served as a transformative experience, significantly enhancing the participants’ skills in AI development and design thinking. It further reinforced their readiness to contribute meaningfully to the AI-driven future across business, education, and society. The University of Luzon’s active engagement in this prestigious event reaffirms its dedication to technological leadership, fostering innovation in education, and advancing its students’ capabilities in the era of artificial intelligence.
The University of Luzon’s participation in the National AI Prompt Design Challenge aligns directly with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By equipping Luzonians with advanced AI skills, the initiative contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education, ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities. The focus on developing secure, sustainable, and impactful AI applications, along with responsible AI development principles, aligns with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by promoting resilient infrastructure, inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and fostering innovation. Furthermore, the development of AI solutions that address societal needs supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by encouraging effective public, public-private, and civil society partnerships to achieve the SDGs.
