University of Luzon Student Groups Lead Extensive Community Health Mission
Posted on 1st of Dec 2025 by UL AdministratorThe spirit of service, a core tenet of the University of Luzon, was recently demonstrated through an extensive and highly impactful health outreach mission that reached across the province. On November 29, 2025, the University of Luzon College of Nursing and Midwifery, alongside the student organization Community Health Advocates and Network for Growth, Education, and Resource Support (CHANGERS), successfully executed the “Alagang Unilab” program in collaboration with the major pharmaceutical company, Unilab. The initiative embodied the powerful statement that “Service knows no distance,” as dedicated Luzonians journeyed from Dagupan City all the way to the far reaches of Bolinao to bring essential care, compassion, and community health services closer to rural residents. The mission underscored the University’s commitment not only to academic excellence but also to proactive social responsibility and community upliftment.
The successful implementation of the program was a testament to the unified effort of multiple student-led bodies within the College of Nursing and Midwifery. The mission drew strength from the coordinated efforts of the Nightingale Student Council Officers, the Red Cross Youth Chapter, the BSN students, and the leadership of CHANGERS for the academic year 2025-2026. These dedicated students applied their theoretical knowledge and clinical skills to deliver a variety of vital services. The activities focused primarily on health promotion and primary care, including the conduct of free, essential health teachings designed to empower residents with preventative knowledge. Furthermore, the teams performed detailed community health assessments, providing a crucial dataset for understanding the local health landscape and ensuring that extended care and necessary resources were directed to those most in need. This hands-on experience serves as a cornerstone of the professional formation of future healthcare providers, translating academic lessons into tangible societal contributions.
The comprehensive effort solidifies the University of Luzon’s role as an institution deeply embedded in the health and prosperity of its surrounding regions. By mobilizing such a large, organized group of student volunteers and faculty, the University proves that meaningful impact is exponentially magnified when undertaken with unity, passion, and a clear sense of purpose. Journeys like the Dagupan-to-Bolinao mission are fundamental in creating lasting, meaningful change, not just through immediate medical assistance but through the empowerment and education of the communities they touch. As CHANGERS stated for the 2025-2026 academic year, “Together, we spark change—one community, one life, one future at a time,” a motto that resonates with the profound and necessary work accomplished. The University encourages all Luzonians to continue supporting and participating in these vital outreach programs, recognizing that collective dedication is the engine of regional progress and wellness.
The activities carried out during the “Alagang Unilab” mission directly align with several key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations, demonstrating the University of Luzon’s global commitment to sustainable development through local action. Specifically, the provision of free health teachings, community assessment, and extended care aligns squarely with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, aiming to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, particularly by moving toward universal health coverage. The collaborative nature of the initiative, involving the University, multiple student organizations, and a private sector partner (Unilab), exemplifies the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which calls for strengthened global partnerships to achieve the SDGs. Furthermore, the hands-on, service-learning component for the College of Nursing and Midwifery students contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education by providing relevant skills for employment, decent jobs, and entrepreneurship, thereby producing graduates who are not only academically proficient but also socially conscious and prepared to serve.
