The University of Luzon (UL) recently achieved significant recognition, solidifying its position as a beacon of educational excellence in the Ilocos Region. During the prestigious 52nd Founding Anniversary and 36th Annual General Assembly of the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), held at Novotel Manila, Quezon City, on December 5, 2025, UL was resoundingly lauded for its enduring commitment to academic quality. The association officially recognized the University of Luzon for having the highest number of accredited programs across Region I, a noteworthy reaffirmation of the institution’s rigorous adherence to national quality standards. This achievement serves as a proud and historic moment for the entire UL community.

The official delegation from the University of Luzon, which included key administrators, was prominently led by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Aurora M. Samson. Dr. Samson proudly accepted the accolade on behalf of the institution, underscoring the collective effort of faculty, staff, and students in maintaining superior educational outcomes. The event was further graced by the presence of CHED Chair Dr. Shirley Agrupis, who personally commended the UL officials for their unwavering dedication to continuous institutional improvement and their success in advancing quality education within the region. Such commendation from the highest national regulatory body for higher education validates the robust systems and innovative educational practices implemented at UL.

Beyond the overall institutional recognition, the University of Luzon secured two remarkable distinctions, highlighting its leadership in specialized academic fields. Specifically, the UL College of Nursing and the UL College of Computer Science were both recognized by PACUCOA as the first Level IV accredited programs in Region I. This is a monumental achievement, as Level IV is the highest accreditation status granted, signifying that the programs have met all standards for quality instruction, research, community extension, and institutional planning with demonstrable maturity and excellence. This historic milestone places UL at the forefront of health sciences and technology education, ensuring that Luzonians are equipped with world-class competencies.

This unparalleled success at the PACUCOA assembly underscores UL’s mission to provide comprehensive, high-quality, and market-relevant education that prepares Luzonians to excel in their respective professions. The consistent pursuit of program accreditation is not merely a compliance exercise but a core strategy that reflects the University’s deep commitment to its stakeholders—the students, parents, and the communities it serves. The distinctions received are a testament to the hard work, perseverance, and vision shared across all colleges and departments, affirming that UL’s legacy of excellence remains vibrant and continually expanding.

The commitment demonstrated by the University of Luzon through its widespread accreditation success directly aligns with multiple critical global objectives as outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Primarily, the achievement directly contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education by ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, as evidenced by the high number of accredited and highest Level IV status programs. Furthermore, by producing highly competent graduates from these accredited programs, especially in specialized fields like Nursing and Computer Science, UL supports SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, fostering productive employment and the creation of highly skilled labor critical for national development. Finally, the pioneering Level IV status in the College of Computer Science contributes to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, as the institution is demonstrably building resilient infrastructure and promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation across the region.
