University of Luzon Promotes Health and Wellness Through Community Outreach
Posted on 12th of Aug 2025 by UL AdministratorIn a dedicated effort to extend its commitment to community welfare, the University of Luzon’s Center for Integrated Extension Services (CIES) and the College of Nursing and Midwifery (CNM) spearheaded a community outreach initiative at St. John’s Child Care Center. Held on August 12, 2025, the event was a poignant celebration of Nationwide Nutrition Month, underscoring the critical importance of good nutrition and oral hygiene as fundamental pillars of a healthy and prosperous life. The collaborative activity provided a vital platform for University of Luzon’s students, faculty, and staff to engage directly with the community, translating academic knowledge into tangible health benefits for young children.
The initiative was designed to be both educational and engaging, centered on promoting healthy habits from an early age. The program featured interactive lessons that highlighted the significance of a balanced diet for growth and development. Members of the CNM imparted essential knowledge about the connection between food choices and overall health, while also providing practical demonstrations on proper oral hygiene techniques. Luzonians involved in the project emphasized the importance of regular brushing and flossing to ensure strong, healthy teeth and a lifetime of bright smiles.
Further strengthening the message of wellness, the university distributed dental kits to all the children, providing them with the necessary tools to implement the lessons they learned. This tangible support reinforced the educational component and empowered the children to take proactive steps in their daily hygiene routines. In addition, the event included engaging sessions on proper handwashing. This simple yet crucial practice was demonstrated with enthusiasm, serving as a powerful reminder of how basic habits can significantly contribute to preventing the spread of illness within the community.
This outreach initiative stands as a testament to the university’s enduring commitment to service. By bringing vital health and wellness education to the local community, the University of Luzon is actively shaping a healthier future beyond its campus walls. The event exemplifies how academic institutions can serve as catalysts for positive change, with dedicated Luzonians applying their skills and compassion to address the real-world needs of society. Such activities are integral to the university’s mission of producing graduates who are not only academically proficient but also socially conscious and committed to service.
The successful execution of this program directly aligns with several key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations. The focus on nutrition, oral hygiene, and handwashing contributes to SDG 3, “Good Health and Well-being,” by ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages. The educational lessons provided to the children support SDG 4, “Quality Education,” by imparting knowledge and skills essential for long-term health literacy. Furthermore, the collaboration between the university and the child care center exemplifies the spirit of SDG 17, “Partnerships for the Goals,” demonstrating how multi-stakeholder cooperation can effectively achieve sustainable development objectives within the community.
