The University of Luzon, in a significant demonstration of its commitment to professional excellence and community engagement, hosted a comprehensive vocational seminar on January 21, 2026, at the University Library. Spearheaded by the Office of Student Affairs in close collaboration with the Rotary Club of Central Pangasinan (RCCP), the event was held in observance of Rotary International’s Vocational Service Month. This strategic partnership brought together student leaders and aspiring professionals from across the university’s diverse academic community to explore the intersection of career development, ethical leadership, and the fundamental Rotary principle of “Service Above Self.” By bridging the gap between academic theory and professional practice, the seminar provided a space for profound discourse on how Luzonians from all disciplines can utilize their specific skills to contribute meaningfully to the societal fabric of Pangasinan and beyond.

The execution of the seminar was guided by the leadership of the Office of Student Affairs, under the direction of Mr. Luis Santiago B. Samson, III, and Assistant Director Prof. Anastacio B. Aquino. Their coordination with the Rotary Club of Central Pangasinan ensured that the program offered high-level professional mentorship to the student body. Among the keynote contributors were Dr. Feliciano “Boyet” V. Bautista Jr., President of the Rotary Club of Central Pangasinan; Director Jason Estrada of the Dagupan Water District, a proud University of Luzon alumnus and incoming RCCP President; and the Honorable Aldrin Sotong, a mechanical engineer and Municipal Councilor of San Jacinto. Their collective insights focused on the importance of maintaining integrity in public and private office, the necessity of vocational ethics, and the transformative power of leadership when rooted in a desire to serve others. These discussions were further enriched by open forums where Luzonians engaged directly with the speakers, posing inquiries that touched upon the challenges of modern professionalism and the strategies required to uphold high ethical standards in increasingly complex global industries.

Throughout the proceedings, university officials and faculty members emphasized that vocational service is not merely a monthly observance but a lifelong mandate for every graduate of the institution. Student leaders representing various campus organizations reflected on their responsibilities to lead by example, considering how their future roles in society demand unwavering transparency and accountability. The presence of University of Luzon alumni like Director Estrada served as a powerful testament to the enduring bond between the university and its graduates, illustrating a successful transition from student leadership to impactful civic involvement. This synergy between the academic community, the Office of Student Affairs, and the Rotary Club of Central Pangasinan underscored a shared vision of nurturing professionals who are not only technically proficient but also morally grounded, regardless of their chosen field of study.

These activities align closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. By providing student leaders with access to high-level professional mentorship and ethical training, the University of Luzon ensures an inclusive and equitable quality education that promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all Luzonians. Furthermore, the collaboration between the university and Rotary International exemplifies a strong commitment to multi-stakeholder partnerships, leveraging shared knowledge and resources to strengthen the means of implementation for sustainable development and societal progress.
