The University of Luzon has officially launched its 2025 ASEAN Month Celebration today, August 26, 2025. The five-day event, held at the UL Dr. Luis F Samson Sr Estadio, is themed “Buwan ng ASEAN: Sama-sama sa Pag-unlad,” which translates to “ASEAN Month: Together for Progress.” The celebration aims to highlight the diverse cultures of Southeast Asia while promoting unity, friendship, and shared progress among the member nations.

The celebration began today with a welcoming program and an ASEAN Parade. The parade featured students from various colleges, each representing a different ASEAN member nation and wearing their national costumes. The parade also displayed flags and tarpaulins from each country. The welcome message was delivered by Prof. Angel S. Reyna Jr., the Director for International Relations, while Prof. Tzarita Marie P. Mayo, the Dean of the College of MLS, Pharmacy & Biology, gave the closing remarks.

From August 27 to August 30, the event will continue with the ASEAN Tagisan ng Talino (Intellectual Competition) and the ASEAN Parangal (Awards). These activities will include a Fun Fact Quiz, a Poster Making Contest, and various awards for participants. Awards will be given for the best national costumes, with a champion and first and second runners-up. Other awards include the ASEAN Challenge Champion, ASEAN Knowledge Runner-Up, ASEAN Wisdom Runner-Up, and the ASEAN Artistry Champion along with its runners-up. This celebration is a testament to the university’s commitment to cultural exchange and education, offering Luzonians an opportunity to deepen their appreciation for the diverse cultures that make up Southeast Asia.

The University of Luzon’s ASEAN Month Celebration aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. By promoting cultural awareness and understanding through a diverse range of activities, the event provides an enriching educational experience that goes beyond the traditional classroom setting, fostering a global perspective among Luzonians. Furthermore, the celebration strengthens regional cooperation and partnerships, as exemplified by the collaboration between various university departments and the welcoming of guests from institutions like the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). These efforts contribute to building a more inclusive and interconnected community, reinforcing the principle of collective progress and solidarity across the ASEAN region.
