The University of Luzon has actively participated in a landmark event aimed at bolstering the creative industries and preserving cultural heritage across the region. In a ceremony coinciding with the Philippine Creative Industries and Pangasinan Tourism Month celebration, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) launched the “Sinnaranay 2 Creative Region One Summit 2025: Second Region One Culture Conference (2nd ROCC)” and the “Culture and Arts Trainers’ and Instructors’ Summit 4 (CATIS 4).” The summit, which carries the theme “We are a creative nation,” is designed to empower the next generation of artists and innovators.

The event, which runs from September 15 to 17, 2025, is a collaborative effort between the NCCA, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and the Provincial Government of Pangasinan. This multi-sectoral partnership underscores the shared commitment to nurturing creativity and recognizing its role in driving sustainable development. To further this goal, a series of workshops and training programs are being conducted to inspire Luzonians and strengthen their skills in cultural and historical preservation.

Marichu Tellano, the deputy executive director for Administration and Support Service of the NCCA, spoke passionately about the importance of youth engagement. “The next generation should be a generation of creatives and creativity. I hope the young people would be able to find their needs, and what is best for their own talents,” she remarked. Her words served as a call to action for students to embrace their creative potential and contribute to the nation’s cultural and economic landscape.

The Sinnaranay 2: Creative Region I Summit 2025 serves as a critical platform for highlighting the importance of culture, heritage, history, and the arts in promoting sustainable economic development and strengthening regional identity. The event features various activities designed to engage participants and foster a deeper appreciation for their roots. Among the notable highlights was a captivating performance by the University of Luzon Theatre and Dance Company (ULTDC), which showcased the talent and artistic prowess of the university’s students.

The University of Luzon’s participation in this summit aligns with its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, by providing students with hands-on learning opportunities in culture and the arts. Furthermore, the focus on sustainable economic development through the creative industries supports Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, as it encourages innovation and entrepreneurship. By inspiring students to become stewards of their cultural heritage, the university also contributes to Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, ensuring that local culture and traditions are preserved for future generations. These initiatives reflect the university’s holistic approach to education, preparing its students not only for professional success but also for responsible citizenship.
