This distinguished honor celebrates the university’s profound commitment to service and its significant contribution to the local community through its comprehensive blood donation initiatives. The award serves as a testament to the collective spirit of the Luzonian community, whose unwavering dedication has made a tangible difference in saving lives.
The formal recognition took place at the “Biskeg ya Dala” (Power of Blood) Annual Recognition Ceremony, an event dedicated to honoring the steadfast compassion and commitment of the Philippine Red Cross Pangasinan Blood Services’ partners, donors, and blood service heroes. Held on August 27, 2025, at the Sison Auditorium, the ceremony underscored the vital role that collaborative efforts play in strengthening public health infrastructure and ensuring the availability of life-saving blood supplies. The university’s presence at this event highlighted its position as a leading partner in this critical humanitarian endeavor.
Through the passionate and coordinated efforts of our student body, faculty, staff, and partners, the University of Luzon’s blood drives successfully collected a total of 570 blood units throughout the 2024 calendar year. This remarkable achievement represents more than just a number; each unit donated is a direct opportunity for hope, healing, and a second chance at life for patients in critical need. This accomplishment is a powerful reflection of the community’s collective empathy, transforming individual acts of generosity into a powerful force for good that benefits countless individuals and families across the region.
The acquisition of the “Abig Award” is not a solitary achievement of the institution but is the result of the tireless efforts and kindness of every Luzoniana who participated. The donors, volunteers, and the many partners who supported these drives are the true heroes of this story. Their willingness to give selflessly has left a profound and lasting impact on the lives of others, embodying the core values that define the University of Luzon. The institution extends its deepest gratitude to every member of the community for their instrumental role in earning this commendation.
The University of Luzon’s successful blood donation campaign and the subsequent “Abig Award” align seamlessly with several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative directly contributes to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by directly supporting the availability of safe and sufficient blood supplies, a fundamental component of effective health systems. Furthermore, this achievement exemplifies the principles of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, demonstrating how strong, collaborative partnerships between academic institutions and humanitarian organizations, such as the Philippine Red Cross, are essential for mobilizing resources and achieving shared objectives for the greater public good.
