The critical event, co-hosted by the Research Institute for Teacher Quality (RITQ) and the Teacher Education Council (TEC) Secretariat, was held at the University of the Cordilleras in Baguio City. The delegation included our distinguished colleagues, Prof. Aillene Q. Caraulia, Prof. Rizel B. Padua, Prof. Kimberly S. Delgado, Prof. Daniel Xerxes S. Padrid, and Prof. Joerom D. Onofre, whose collective expertise ensured comprehensive institutional representation.
The Zonal Public Hearing represents a significant and vital stage in the national effort to modernize teacher education standards across the country. The central purpose of the hearing was the extensive validation of the initial outputs resulting from the reframing initiative. These outputs include meticulously developed proposed degree program descriptions, comprehensive program outcomes, and strategic specialization tracks designed to enhance teacher preparation for the next generation. The University of Luzon faculty played a key role in this process, bringing the unique perspectives and needs of our community to the national forum.
Throughout the forum, the University of Luzon’s academic delegation actively and meaningfully engaged in discussions concerning critical facets of teacher education standards. Their contributions spanned topics such as the necessary balance between specialized and general education majors, and ensuring holistic alignment with national competency outcomes required for effective teacher preparation. By participating in this high-level policy dialogue, our faculty demonstrated the institution’s commitment to shaping curricula that are informed by global pedagogical benchmarks while remaining acutely responsive to regional and local realities. Their advocacy serves to strengthen the University of Luzon’s position as a regional powerhouse and thought leader in educational innovation.
The dedication of these faculty members in contributing to the national dialogue on the future of teaching excellence reflects the core values of the University. Their work ensures that future educators graduating from our institution are prepared to deliver the highest standards of instruction to all Luzonians. We extend our immense pride and gratitude to these veteran educators for their efforts in advocating for the progressive needs of our academic community and for championing excellence in the teaching profession at the national level.
This active involvement in redefining the national pre-service teacher education curriculum directly supports the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4: Quality Education. By participating in the validation and refinement of program standards, the University of Luzon is ensuring that future educators—who will teach countless Luzonians—are equipped with globally competitive and locally relevant competencies, thereby improving learning outcomes and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. Furthermore, this collaborative effort with national bodies like RITQ and TEC, which aims to strengthen standards and foster shared responsibility for educational reform, strongly aligns with Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals. This engagement showcases the University of Luzon’s commitment to national collaboration for sustainable, high-quality development in the education sector.
