On July 3, 2025, Dr. Carmelo John E. Vidal, President of the Philippine Society of NSTP Educators and Implementers (PSNEI) and Dean of the University of Luzon (UL) Graduate School, delivered a presentation on “NSTP Updates (Issuances and Guidelines)” at the National Congress of NSTP Implementers and Educators. The event, held at the Golden Peak Hotel & Suites in Cebu City, brought together educators and implementers from across the nation to discuss developments in the National Service Training Program.

Dr. Vidal’s presentation, a key highlight of the second day of the congress, focused on the latest issuances and guidelines affecting the NSTP, an essential component of higher education in the Philippines designed to promote civic consciousness and defense preparedness among students. His insights provided valuable information on the program’s prospects and developments, particularly concerning citizenship training and national leadership, topics crucial for fostering responsible and engaged Luzonians. The congress served as a vital platform for sharing best practices and addressing challenges in NSTP implementation nationwide.

The University of Luzon’s active participation in this national congress aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By contributing to the refinement and effective implementation of the NSTP, the university directly supports SDG 4: Quality Education, by ensuring that Luzonians receive holistic training that extends beyond academic pursuits to include civic responsibility and leadership. Furthermore, the focus on citizenship training and national leadership contributes to SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by fostering informed and engaged citizens who are prepared to contribute positively to societal development and uphold democratic values.
