The University of Luzon (UL) is proud to announce that two of its faculty members from the College of Computer Studies, Prof. Andrew Caronongan and Mr. Cee Jay Lomibao, have successfully completed a five-day training on Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT). The training took place at Makerspace Innovhub in Mapandan, Pangasinan, from September 9 to 13, 2024.

The VAPT training was made possible through an invitation by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 1 and was fully supported by Dr. Diosdado Caronongan, Dean of the College of Computer Studies. Mr. Erick Garin, a representative from the International Relations Office, also participated in the training.

The training was expertly facilitated by cybersecurity specialists Mr. Tzar Umang and Mr. Christian Idia, who provided in-depth instruction on the latest methods of identifying and mitigating security vulnerabilities. The faculty members were exposed to a wide range of topics, including network scanning, vulnerability analysis, exploitation techniques, and penetration testing methodologies.

The VAPT training equipped Prof. Caronongan and Mr. Lomibao with advanced knowledge and skills that they can now integrate into the college’s initiatives. By sharing their expertise with students, they can contribute to the development of a more cybersecurity-aware and resilient community.

The acquisition of VAPT skills by UL faculty members aligns with the institution’s commitment to providing high-quality education and preparing students for the challenges of the digital age. By equipping students with the necessary tools and knowledge to protect themselves and their organizations from cyber threats, UL is contributing to the overall cybersecurity landscape.

This achievement also aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4: Quality Education. By investing in the professional development of its faculty members, UL is ensuring that students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for the demands of the modern workforce. Additionally, the training contributes to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by fostering the development of skilled cybersecurity professionals who can contribute to the growth and security of the digital economy.

The University of Luzon is immensely proud of the achievements of Prof. Caronongan and Mr. Lomibao. Their participation in the VAPT training demonstrates the institution’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements and providing its students with the best possible education. As UL continues to strive for excellence, it remains dedicated to producing highly qualified graduates who are equipped to make a positive impact on society.
