The University of Luzon (UL) College of Nursing and Midwifery has taken a significant step towards enhancing the quality of nursing and midwifery education by launching its inaugural “Faculty Development Program” on September 26. Held at the Nursing Building, Room 327, the program aimed to equip faculty members with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively educate future generations of healthcare professionals.

Recognizing the rapid evolution of the healthcare landscape, the college understands the importance of continuous professional development for its faculty. The program was designed to provide faculty members with new pedagogical skills, subject-matter expertise, and innovative teaching techniques. By investing in their faculty, the college aims to improve teaching and research capabilities, ultimately leading to better outcomes for students and the communities they serve.

Dean Jordan H. Llego, the keynote speaker for the event, emphasized the crucial role of faculty development in advancing teaching skills, updating subject knowledge, and improving research capabilities through innovation. He highlighted the importance of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, building leadership and confidence, and ultimately leading to better outcomes for students and the communities they serve.

The Faculty Development Program covered a wide range of topics, including effective teaching strategies, curriculum development, assessment techniques, and research methodologies. Participants had the opportunity to engage in interactive workshops, group discussions, and presentations, allowing them to learn from each other and share best practices.

The program’s focus on faculty development aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all. By investing in the professional development of its faculty, the UL College of Nursing and Midwifery is contributing to the goal of providing quality education to all students, regardless of their background.

Furthermore, the program also supports SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. By equipping nursing and midwifery faculty with the necessary skills and knowledge, the college is helping to produce graduates who are capable of providing high-quality healthcare services and improving the health and well-being of communities.

The UL College of Nursing and Midwifery is committed to providing its faculty with the resources and support they need to excel in their roles. The inaugural Faculty Development Program is just the beginning of a long-term commitment to continuous professional development and excellence in nursing and midwifery education.
