On September 29, the UAPSA – University of Luzon and the Galila Arts Festival came together for an inspiring celebration of Philippine Creative Industries Month. This student-volunteered event, supported by Hon. Christopher De Venecia, 4th District Congressman of Pangasinan, and DTI Region 1, highlighted the energy and dedication of young people toward creating a sustainable future. Held at the DCNHS SPA Building Grounds in Dagupan City, the festival embraced the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on community-driven environmental sustainability and artistic expression.

Basura’y Pulutin Mo, Ta’s Gawa Ka Bahay Kubo

Aligned with SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, this contest encouraged students to showcase their creativity while raising environmental awareness. By collecting and repurposing litter, participants designed eco-friendly models of the bahay kubo-a project that highlighted recycling, resourcefulness, and sustainable design principles. This activity brought a practical approach to SDG 14: Life Below Water, underscoring the importance of reducing litter in coastal areas.

Plein Air Painting

The plein air painting competition encouraged students to express their artistic talents, capturing the natural beauty and culture of Pangasinan. This contest aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 13: Climate Action, using art to foster a deeper connection with the environment and raise awareness about sustainable practices. Through their art, students conveyed messages of environmental conservation and the need to preserve cultural heritage.

Celebrating Student Involvement and Impact

This event was a testament to the power of student-led initiatives in advancing sustainability goals. The dedication and enthusiasm of the student volunteers shone through in every aspect of the event. Their efforts exemplified how young people can drive impactful change, inspire others, and support a shared vision for a greener future.

A Unified Vision for a Sustainable Community

With the support of Hon. Christopher De Venecia and community partners, the event celebrated the unique ability of the arts to inspire social and environmental responsibility. The success of this youth-led initiative proved that, together, communities can make great strides toward a sustainable future—one where creativity and collaboration fuel lasting positive change.

Congratulations to all the UL College of Engineering & Architecture-AIT students, volunteers, and participants for their incredible contributions to the SDGs and for making this event a resounding success!
