The annual Tiger Walk, a vibrant celebration of unity and school spirit at the University of Luzon (UL), took place on August 30, 2024. This year’s event, however, faced unforeseen challenges due to high tides, which often lead to flooding in certain areas of Dagupan.

Despite these obstacles, the Tiger Walk remained a memorable occasion. The day began with a Thanksgiving Mass, where students, faculty, and staff expressed gratitude for the blessings received throughout the academic year. Following the mass, the traditional Tiger Walk was scheduled to take place, with students parading through the streets of Dagupan, accompanied by music, dance, and colorful displays.

Unfortunately, due to the flooding of certain streets around the campus, the planned parade had to be modified. The students instead opted to march within the UL campus, creating a festive atmosphere that was equally uplifting. The change in plans did not dampen the enthusiasm of the participants, as they celebrated their school spirit and camaraderie.

Coinciding with the Tiger Walk was the highly anticipated Turnover of the Key ceremony. This tradition involves the outgoing host college passing the torch of responsibility for campus-wide events to the incoming host college. This year, the College of Accountancy handed over the reins to the College of Computer Studies, ensuring a seamless transition and continued engagement of the student body.

The afternoon portion of the Tiger Walk featured a variety of performances, including singing and dancing showcases by talented students. A local band, sponsored by Globe Telecommunications, also took the stage, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The Tiger Walk is more than just a celebration; it is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the Luzonian community. Despite the challenges posed by the high tides, the event showcased the spirit of unity and progress that defines UL. The Tiger Walk also aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By promoting community engagement, cultural exchange, and a sense of belonging, the event contributes to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Additionally, the focus on education, creativity, and talent development supports SDGs 4: Quality Education and 10: Reduced Inequalities.

The Tiger Walk serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, the Luzonian community can come together to celebrate their shared values and aspirations. As the University of Luzon continues to grow and evolve, the Tiger Walk will remain a cherished tradition that embodies the spirit and essence of this vibrant institution.
