Posted on 4th of Aug 2025 by UL AdministratorThe University of Luzon proudly served as a co-sponsor for the AFTA Balikturo 2025 Series 3, a professional development event aimed at “Empowering Teachers, Enriching Minds.” Organized by The Association of Fil-Am Teachers of America (AFTA) and the Division of City Schools of Legazpi City, the event took place on July 22 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Division of City Schools of Legazpi City, Albay.
The Balikturo series is a significant platform for educators to enhance their skills and knowledge through various sessions led by distinguished resource speakers. This year’s lineup featured a diverse range of experts who shared insights on a variety of educational topics. Dr. Rizalina C. Labanda, an International Literacy Expert, discussed “The Science of Reading: What Every Teacher Needs to Know.” Former DepEd Undersecretary Dr. Lorna Dig Dino presented on “Professional Learning and Development.” The roster of speakers also included Dr. Melvin U. Damaolao, Mr. Johjoh S. Demol-Jenae, Mr. Kristian Philip Rodriguez Peñas, and Mr. Ermys Bornilla, each contributing their expertise on subjects ranging from leveraging AI in education to fostering growth mindsets in students.
The University of Luzon’s sponsorship of this event underscores its commitment to the advancement of quality education beyond its own campus. By supporting initiatives like AFTA Balikturo, the university reinforces its role as a key player in the national educational landscape, providing opportunities for professional growth for educators. This partnership is a testament to the university’s dedication to fostering a culture of lifelong learning and excellence, which directly benefits the broader community and, in turn, all Luzonians. The collaborative effort highlights the importance of shared responsibility in improving educational standards across the country.
The university’s engagement with the AFTA Balikturo 2025 Series 3 directly aligns with several key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By investing in the professional development of teachers, the University of Luzon contributes significantly to SDG 4: Quality Education, specifically by promoting professional training and development for educators. This initiative also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as it exemplifies a collaborative effort between an academic institution, a non-profit organization, and a government body to achieve a common objective. The ultimate goal of improving educational outcomes for all students, including our own Luzonians, is a shared responsibility, and this event serves as a prime example of such a partnership in action.
