ACADEMIC COUNSELLING (Student Consultation)
A. Counselling: Basic Condition of Faculty Employment
One of the conditions of employment for all monthly-paid faculty members requires that they shall devote at least 16 hours a week for student consultations. The time schedule for this activity must be submitted through the Department Chairman for approval by the College Dean concerned. The
faculty member should stay in the Dean’s Office Faculty Room during the scheduled hours for academic consultation (Art. VI Sec. 2.2 of the Faculty Manual)
On the other hand, all regular probationary or part-time faculty members whose salaries are computed on hourly basis shall primarily engage in actual teaching. However, they are also expected to participate actively in department or college committee meetings, workshops, planning sessions, university-wide activities when requested to do so without compensation, as part of their professional commitment to the University of Luzon.
B. Guidelines in the Conduct of Student Consultation:
1. During the first two (2) weeks from the start of classes every term, the Office of the Dean shall prepare the list of the consultation period of faculty members of the College. This approved list shall be posted prominently at the Bulletin Boards of the College.
2. Students of the College shall visit and read the information posted on the Bulletin Boards of the College to be guided properly.
3. Any student of the College may avail of the counselling services of its faculty members.
4.Students may approach a faculty member during his/her consultation period at the designated room/office. He/she shall accomplish the Counselling Form provided by the Office of the Dean and present this form to the faculty member concerned after registering on the log book provided for the purpose.
5. This faculty member shall review the Counselling Form properly accomplished by the student before the interview commences.
6. After the interview, the faculty member shall indicate on the Counselling Form his/her comments to be submitted to the Dean.
7.Should the interview require further counselling, the student may be referred to the Guidance Center of the University and fill up the Referral Skip.
