University of Luzon Participants Strengthen Disaster Response Skills Through Indonesia Immersion Program

Preparing for emergencies requires more than classroom knowledge. University of Luzon nursing students and College of Nursing and Midwifery faculty members took part in an intensive Disaster Management and Emergency Response Training through the Indonesia Immersion Program on May 22, 2026, gaining practical experience in responding to emergencies, disasters, and public health crises.

Through hands-on simulations and realistic training scenarios, participants practiced search and rescue operations, water rescue techniques, victim retrieval and transportation, patient stabilization, triage, and emergency first aid. These activities allowed them to apply their professional education in situations that require quick and careful action.

The training also highlighted the importance of rapid assessment, communication, teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, and decision-making during crisis situations. Participants learned how proper preparation and coordination can help protect affected communities and provide timely assistance during emergencies.

Beyond developing practical skills, the experience gave both students and faculty a wider understanding of the role of healthcare professionals during disasters. The international learning environment also strengthened their adaptability and preparedness while providing an opportunity to learn from disaster response practices outside the Philippines.

The training supports the University of Luzon’s efforts to develop capable and responsive healthcare professionals while contributing to sustainable development. Through the Indonesia Immersion Program, University of Luzon continues to provide meaningful international learning experiences that strengthen practical skills, confidence, and readiness among its nursing students and faculty.
