University of Luzon Student Nurses and Faculty Explore Community Healthcare Through Indonesia Immersion Program

The Indonesia Immersion Program gave University of Luzon student nurses and faculty members from the College of Nursing and Midwifery an opportunity to experience Indonesia’s community healthcare system on May 20, 2026.
A key part of their experience was a visit to a local Puskesmas, a primary healthcare facility that serves as an important part of Indonesia’s community healthcare system. The participants observed how healthcare professionals provide preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative services, giving them a closer look at how healthcare is delivered within an Indonesian community. As part of the academic exchange, College of Nursing and Midwifery faculty members conducted an expert lecture on diabetes awareness and prevention, sharing knowledge on health education, early detection, and healthy lifestyle practices.
The immersion also included activities conducted in other community settings. UL student nurses facilitated a bullying awareness program at a local high school, promoting respect, empathy, and positive relationships among students. The activity gave them an opportunity to share their knowledge and engage with the local community through international learning and cultural exchange.
The visit also allowed the student nurses to gain a broader understanding of community-based care by observing healthcare practices in another country. This international exposure supported their professional training while helping them appreciate how different communities respond to their healthcare needs.
The experience connected community healthcare, academic exchange, and international learning. These efforts contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals particularly, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being by strengthening understanding of community healthcare and disease prevention; SDG 4: Quality Education through professional education, firsthand experience, and knowledge sharing; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by encouraging international cooperation and shared learning.
Through the Indonesia Immersion Program, University of Luzon provides student nurses with opportunities to learn from healthcare practices beyond the Philippines while building a wider perspective of their future profession.
