The landscape of cloud computing and digital innovation continues to evolve at a rapid pace, and the University of Luzon remains at the forefront of this transformation. On February 7, 2026, a dedicated delegation of Luzonians from the College of Computer Studies participated in the 5th AWS User Group Pangasinan Meetup. Held in Pantal, Dagupan City, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, the full-day event served as a high-level forum for local technology professionals and aspiring student builders to exchange knowledge and explore the latest advancements within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) ecosystem.

Representing the University of Luzon were Prof. Cee Jay A. Lomibao and Ms. Ruzleen Kate C. Soriano, accompanied by three exceptional students from the Computer Studies program. Their presence underscored the university’s commitment to bridging the gap between academic theory and industry application. The meetup focused heavily on “Kiro,” an emerging agentic tool designed to streamline modern cloud workflows. Through practical demonstrations and hands-on discussions, attendees examined how Kiro can be integrated into development cycles to enhance productivity while maintaining code quality.

A significant portion of the morning session was dedicated to AWS BuilderCards, a gamified learning resource that simplifies the complexities of AWS architecture. For the Luzonians in attendance, this provided a beginner-friendly entry point into understanding global infrastructure, storage solutions, and compute services. This interactive approach encouraged a collaborative atmosphere where seasoned cloud engineers and students could engage in a shared dialogue regarding the practicalities of building in the cloud.

As the day progressed, the discourse shifted toward the critical pillar of cybersecurity. Experts led a deep-dive session on maintaining a robust security posture when utilizing cloud-based tools like Kiro. The conversation moved beyond simple technical configurations, touching upon risk awareness, responsible AI usage, and the necessity of “security by design.” Participants engaged in a spirited exchange regarding the balance between rapid innovation and the ethical safeguarding of data, highlighting the reality that modern builders must be as vigilant as they are creative.

The engagement of University of Luzon students in such professional circles provides them with invaluable real-world exposure that complements their classroom learning. By interacting with members of the AWS User Group Pangasinan—a community supported by global AWS Community Heroes and regional leaders—Luzonians are better prepared to enter a competitive workforce that increasingly demands cloud proficiency. The event concluded with a networking session that allowed students to forge connections with local industry veterans, reinforcing the strength of the Pangasinan tech community.

These initiatives are integral to the university’s broader mission of fostering a future-ready student body. By participating in community-led technical meetups, the University of Luzon directly supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, these activities contribute to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing inclusive and equitable lifelong learning opportunities that go beyond traditional curricula. The focus on cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity aligns with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by equipping the next generation of IT professionals with the skills needed to build resilient digital systems. Furthermore, the collaborative nature of the meetup exemplifies SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), as it brings together academia and the private sector to strengthen the regional technological landscape.
