The University of Luzon’s College of Medical Laboratory Science, Pharmacy, and Biology reached a significant milestone in its commitment to student professional development with the successful conclusion of “The Roadmap to RMT: Challenges, Careers, & Opportunities.” Held on December 17, 2025, the event utilized a hybrid format, streaming virtually while hosting a live gathering at the university’s Room 525 to provide a comprehensive bridge between academic preparation and the realities of the medical profession. For the Luzonians in attendance, the seminar served as more than just an informational session; it was an intimate exploration of the fortitude required to transition from the classroom to the clinical laboratory. The proceedings were defined by the personal narratives of two esteemed alumni and Registered Medical Technologists, Ms. Daisy Camille Maminta and Mr. Brazzy E. Pasiliao, both of whom offered candid reflections on the arduous journey toward licensure and the various ways the University of Luzon facilitates a balanced, disciplined approach to rigorous scientific study.

Ms. Daisy Camille Maminta, RMT, provided a moving testimony regarding the necessity of perseverance in the face of academic and professional setbacks. Rather than focusing solely on clinical success, she highlighted the importance of maintaining one’s humanity and passions under the intense pressure of licensure review seasons. She shared how her involvement in pageantry and her love for singing acted as vital sanctuaries for her mental well-being, challenging the common misconception that the pursuit of a medical degree requires the total abandonment of personal interests. Her reflection emphasized that the University of Luzon provides a unique environment where students can find a healthy equilibrium between social activities and academic discipline. By grounding her journey in faith and referencing the spiritual assurance that success arrives when the time is right, she reminded aspiring RMTs that resilience is built through the integration of one’s whole self into their professional goals.

The narrative of commitment was further strengthened by Mr. Brazzy E. Pasiliao, RMT, who spoke with profound pride regarding his academic roots at the University of Luzon. Mr. Pasiliao shared the challenges of his non-linear path, revealing that there were moments during his undergraduate years when he considered pausing his education to enter the workforce. However, his decision to remain steadfast in his studies ultimately led to the professional achievement he enjoys today. His story resonated deeply with the student body, serving as a powerful reminder that while the road to becoming a Registered Medical Technologist is rarely without obstacles, unwavering determination remains the primary catalyst for success. Both speakers underscored that the technical skills acquired in the laboratory are only one half of the equation; the other half is the “resolve” that the University of Luzon seeks to instill in every student.

The successful execution of the event was a testament to the leadership and organizational capabilities of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-year Medical Laboratory Science students. Working under the guidance of their adviser, Mrs. Allysa Nina Mayo-Ama, RMT, the student organizers demonstrated the very professional competencies the seminar aimed to highlight. The program reached its conclusion with closing remarks from the Dean of the College of Medical Laboratory Science, Pharmacy, and Biology, Dean Tzarita Marie P. Mayo, RMT, RPH, MSPharm, who reinforced the university’s dedication to producing world-class healthcare professionals. As the university prepares for a follow-up live session on December 20, 2025, the impact of these shared stories continues to inspire a new generation of Luzonians to pursue their RMT credentials with renewed vigor and a clearer understanding of the opportunities that lie ahead in the field of medical science.

The “Roadmap to RMT” initiative aligns closely with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), most notably SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). By equipping students with the technical knowledge and emotional resilience necessary to become competent healthcare providers, the University of Luzon directly contributes to the strengthening of the health workforce, which is essential for ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being at all ages. Furthermore, the event supports SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by providing career guidance and fostering a roadmap for professional success, ensuring that Luzonians are well-prepared to enter the global labor market as highly skilled, productive members of the medical community. Through these integrated efforts, the university continues to serve as a beacon of academic excellence and social responsibility in the region.
