Yesterday, December 16th, the University of Luzon successfully culminated its much-anticipated annual Paskuhan, transforming the traditional holiday event into a massive, organized charity and gift-giving initiative aimed at communities most in need. This yearly undertaking underscores the institution’s profound commitment not only to upholding academic excellence but also to fulfilling its civic duty and social responsibility, demonstrating the strong and compassionate spirit inherent in the entire Luzonian community as the Christmas season reaches its peak. This large-scale mobilization involved hundreds of students, faculty, and non-teaching personnel, all dedicated to spreading holiday cheer and providing tangible assistance across the region.

The core of the Paskuhan outreach centered on the direct provision of essential aid to families and individuals experiencing socioeconomic hardship across various barangays and institutions in Dagupan City and Santa Barbara. Deploying resources effectively, the university distributed carefully prepared packages containing essential goods, commodities, and, most notably, traditional noche buena items. This crucial provision ensures that even the most vulnerable households have the means to participate in the joyous celebration of the Filipino Christmas Eve, embodying the true meaning of communal support and selfless sharing during this festive time of year.

To maximize the reach and impact of the donations, the initiative was executed through a comprehensive, coordinated system, with each college and major department taking ownership of specific locations. The College of Criminology, for instance, extended its service to Barangay Banaoang in Santa Barbara. The collaborative teams from the College of Business Administration and Hotel & Tourism Management reached out simultaneously to Barangay Carael and Barangay Tebeng in Dagupan City. The non-teaching personnel, working alongside the Graduate School, dedicated their efforts to the Saint John Child Care Center in Dagupan, bringing warmth and essential resources to its young residents. Meanwhile, the College of Nursing undertook a significant mission across multiple barangays in Santa Barbara, covering Nilombot, Banzal, Erfe, and Leet, showcasing a commitment to broad humanitarian coverage.

Further demonstrating the breadth of the institutional effort, the contingent formed by Medical Laboratory Science, Pharmacy, Biology, and Computer Studies focused their generosity on Barangay Malued, Dagupan. The combined forces of the College of Accountancy and Engineering & Architecture brightened the holiday for residents of Barangay Pogo Chico, while the College of Liberal Arts concentrated its aid on Barangay Pantal. Finally, the joint team representing the College of Education, the Senior High School, and the Laboratory School provided essential relief to Barangay Bonuan Boquig. This coordinated effort highlights the University of Luzon’s unique institutional capacity to mobilize its diverse human resources for the enduring benefit of its surrounding regions, successfully completing another mission that exemplifies selfless dedication to service.

The University of Luzon’s Paskuhan activities are a tangible demonstration of its dedication to achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework. By directly supplying food and essential goods to vulnerable populations, the initiative aligns strongly with SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), aiming to alleviate immediate hardship, improve livelihoods, and ensure basic food security for the families served during the critical holiday season. Furthermore, the collaborative, university-wide structure, which mobilized every department—from the technical colleges to the administrative staff—and fostered partnerships with multiple external communities and local government units, directly reinforces the spirit and mandate of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), proving that comprehensive, institutional-level engagement is vital for achieving sustainable social and welfare improvements within the greater Luzon community.
