The pursuit of cutting-edge knowledge and collaborative research remained a core priority for the University of Luzon as the College of Computer Studies (CCS) participated virtually in the prestigious ITS Research Workshop on Artificial Intelligence: Applications and Implications in Education, Healthcare, and Cultural Heritage. Hosted by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) on February 24, 2025, the workshop brought together distinguished scholars and practitioners to dissect the expansive and transformative role of artificial intelligence in addressing contemporary global challenges. Luzonians from the CCS gained direct access to world-class expertise through the hybrid format, ensuring an enriching academic experience despite geographical distance. The session was headlined by Dr. Ganesh Iyer of the School of Computing, National University of Singapore, who delivered an incisive discussion on how AI is fundamentally reshaping three critical societal pillars: education, healthcare, and the preservation of cultural heritage. Dr. Iyer’s address illuminated practical applications of AI tools, from personalized learning systems and advanced diagnostic medical technologies to sophisticated algorithms designed for the digital archiving and reconstruction of historical artifacts. The structure of the workshop facilitated vibrant, engaging discussions among attending researchers and professionals, significantly enhancing the participants’ understanding of AI’s complex ethical and practical implications. This collaborative environment served as an essential platform for knowledge-sharing, reinforcing the University of Luzon’s commitment to academic excellence and international scholarly engagement in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence. Gratitude is formally extended to ITS and Dr. Iyer for orchestrating this seminal event, which truly fostered a valuable exchange essential for academic growth and continued innovation.

The activities undertaken by the College of Computer Studies through this participation are directly aligned with several critical Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations. By focusing on the transformative role of AI in education, the workshop strongly contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education, promoting inclusive and equitable quality education through the adoption of new technologies for learning. The exploration of AI’s impact on innovation and infrastructure, particularly in healthcare and cultural heritage, supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by building resilient infrastructure and fostering innovation. Furthermore, the discussion on using AI for cultural preservation and smart technologies in public services indirectly supports aspects of SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, specifically by protecting the world’s cultural and natural heritage and providing access to information. Most importantly, the virtual attendance and the formal academic exchange with ITS and the National University of Singapore exemplify SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, strengthening global partnerships to support and achieve the ambitious targets of the 2030 Agenda through cooperation and knowledge exchange.
