The University of Luzon Graduate School recently cemented its reputation for scholarly excellence by achieving a sweeping victory at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office I SHARES (Structuring Harmonized Alignment of Research and Extension Strategies): Excellence in Action – Recognizing Outstanding Research Outputs. The prestigious event, held on November 25, 2025, at Patio by Balai Norte in San Juan, La Union, served as a platform for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) across the region to present their most significant academic contributions. The success of the Graduate School delegation underscores the University of Luzon’s unwavering commitment to research that drives innovation and impacts societal well-being.

The Graduate School presented two distinct research papers, both of which were recognized as the 1st Place Best Research Output across the entire regional competition—a remarkable testament to the quality and relevance of the faculty’s intellectual endeavors. The first study, entitled “Digital Quality Assurance Documentation and Compliance System for a Higher Educational Institutions: The WCC Pilot Analysis,” was collaboratively presented by Dr. Amalia G. Dela Cruz, Dr. Lersan B. Del Mundo, and Dr. Carmelo John E. Vidal. This essential work focuses on leveraging technology to streamline and enhance institutional efficiency, ensuring that quality assurance processes within HEIs are modern, compliant, and data-driven. The adoption of such systems is crucial for maintaining academic standards and responsiveness in an increasingly digital world, setting a forward-looking benchmark for educational management.

The second winning presentation addressed a vital contemporary issue of environmental and socio-economic resilience. Dr. Maria Salves B. Vedaña, along with her co-authors Dr. Esther B. Vedaña and Dr. Atanacio T. Padawil, presented the paper “Climate Change Adaptation Strategies and Priorities in Future-Proofing Pangasinan Local Government Units.” This research provides empirically grounded strategies and policy recommendations designed to assist Local Government Units (LGUs) in Pangasinan in developing robust responses to the escalating challenges posed by climate change. The findings offer a critical roadmap for proactive governance, disaster risk reduction, and the long-term sustainability of local communities.

The University of Luzon’s strong presence at the forum was further supported by key members of the academic administration, including Dr. Jeanica C. Joson, Research Center Director; Dr. Jean V. Ramos, MBA Program Coordinator; and Prof. Jhared C. Calimlim, Graduate School Administrative Assistant. Their attendance highlights the comprehensive institutional backing provided for faculty research initiatives. This environment of academic support and dedication to cutting-edge inquiry is what allows the University of Luzon to consistently generate outputs of such high caliber, bringing profound honor not only to the Graduate School but to the entire Luzonians community.

The success of these research outputs directly aligns with several critical United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The development of the Digital Quality Assurance System contributes significantly to SDG 4: Quality Education by strengthening the governance and monitoring systems necessary for effective and inclusive learning environments, while also supporting SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure through the advancement of digital tools for institutional resilience. Simultaneously, the study on Climate Change Adaptation Strategies is a direct contribution to SDG 13: Climate Action, by providing local governments with actionable data to mitigate and adapt to climate impacts. Furthermore, by focusing on strengthening local governance, this work supports SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, ensuring that future development is resilient and inclusive, demonstrating that the University of Luzon’s scholarly pursuits are fundamentally rooted in advancing global sustainable development priorities.
