EDUCA-TALK: An Advocacy on Sexual Education

EDUCA-TALK is a health education initiative focused on promoting wellness, providing health information, and encouraging healthy practices among students and the wider Luzonian community. Spearheaded by the College of Nursing and Midwifery in collaboration with the University Clinic, the program provides a dynamic platform for accessible, evidence-based discussions on various health topics.

Last November 4, 2023, EDUCA-TALK focus was on sexual and reproductive health, bringing together 357 participants from various colleges and departments to foster a shared space for learning and responsible decision-making.

The session addressed essential topics often overlooked by young adults. A key component was practical guidance on contraceptives, including male and female condoms and other effective methods. Through demonstrations, students gained a clear understanding of how each option works, enabling them to make informed decisions about their health and future. EDUCA-TALK also emphasized awareness and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), covering common STDs, their symptoms, modes of transmission, and protective measures to reduce stigma and encourage responsible health-seeking behavior.

Importantly, the program included signposting to sexual and reproductive health-care services, such as the University Clinic and partner local health centers, ensuring that students who required consultation, testing, or counseling knew where to access professional care. Through interactive discussions, practical demonstrations, and youth-friendly approaches, EDUCA-TALK transformed complex health information into actionable knowledge that students could apply in their daily lives.

By combining education with access guidance, EDUCA-TALK not only equipped students with critical knowledge but also connected them to appropriate health services, supporting a safer, healthier, and more informed generation of Luzonians.
