About the Health Outreach Program/Projects
The aforementioned health outreach projects for Academic Year 2023-2024 implemented by the University of Luzon Center for Integrated Extension Services (ULCIES) in collaboration with the different colleges/units concentrated on promoting oral hygiene, fostering healthy eating habits to address malnutrition, and enhancing the mental well-being of their target beneficiaries.
The Project HYGENIUS, Project EAT, and Project NutriFun, all intended for local communities and focused on improving health and well-being among disadvantaged groups. HYGENIUS promoted oral hygiene through workshops, free dental check-ups, and hygiene kit distribution. Project EAT addressed undernutrition by training mothers to prepare nutritious meals for livelihood opportunities while supporting a month-long feeding program for children in Barangay Malued. Project NutriFun enhanced overall wellness by combining nutrition support with recreational and educational activities that encouraged fitness, reduced stress, and strengthened social connections. Together, these projects created meaningful and lasting change for vulnerable families.
Project HYGENIUS (Unleashing Smiles)
About the Project
In communities where oral health often takes a back seat, Project HYGENIUS emerged as a vital initiative for young learners at Saint John Child Care Center in Barangay Malued, Dagupan City. Aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, the completed project promoted lifelong oral hygiene among children from disadvantaged communities, reaching approximately 27 beneficiaries and addressing limited access to dental care.
Project HYGENIUS went beyond teaching children how to brush their teeth. It was a comprehensive program anchored in education, empowerment, and community engagement. With its strong focus on prevention, the project equipped learners with the knowledge and skills needed to avoid dental problems. Through interactive workshops, hands-on activities, and informative sessions, children learned correct brushing techniques, the value of regular dental check-ups, and the essentials of oral wellness.
A key component of the project was its collaboration with dental professionals from Valdez Dental Clinic and school facilitators, forming a strong support network that guided learners and reinforced the importance of professional care.
Accessibility was central to the initiative. Recognizing the socioeconomic barriers many families face, Project HYGENIUS offered free dental check-ups, oral hygiene kits, and mobile outreach activities, ensuring that all participating children had the opportunity to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Beyond oral health, the project nurtured confidence, self-care, and social responsibility among young learners. By empowering children to adopt healthy habits and take ownership of their well-being, Project HYGENIUS helped lay the groundwork for brighter futures and stronger, healthier communities.

Project EAT (Educate, Advocate, Teach)
About the Project
Undernutrition remains a pressing issue in the Philippines, particularly among children from impoverished communities. According to UNICEF, 3.6 million Filipino children under five are underweight, and around 4 million are stunted, contributing to cycles of poor health, limited opportunities, and generational poverty.
In response, Project EAT was implemented at St. John Child Care Center in Barangay Malued, Dagupan City, aiming to improve child nutrition while empowering families. The project focused on two main objectives. First, it provided training to vulnerable families, particularly mothers without a stable income, teaching them how to prepare nutritious meals that could also serve as a small food-based livelihood. Second, the meals prepared by these families were used in a month-long feeding program that supported 30 young children, directly addressing malnutrition and contributing to their growth and well-being.
By combining skills training with practical nutrition support, Project EAT strengthened community empowerment while improving child health. Families gained knowledge, confidence, and practical tools to contribute to their children’s well-being and develop sustainable food-based solutions for income generation.
The project demonstrates how targeted, localized initiatives can effectively tackle long-standing social challenges. Through education, advocacy, and hands-on engagement, Project EAT not only improved the nutritional status of its beneficiaries but also fostered stronger community involvement and resilience, showing how collective action can create real and lasting impact.

Project NUTRIFUN
About the Project
Project NutriFun is a community-centered initiative grounded in service, education, and empowerment, aimed at enhancing the overall well-being of local residents, particularly those with limited access to health and wellness programs. Implemented at Barangay Malued Day Care Center in Dagupan City, the project supported 33 beneficiaries, focusing on improving physical health through nutrition while nurturing mental wellness and social connections through recreational activities.
The project combined a feeding program with leisure and educational sessions, addressing malnutrition while promoting holistic health. Beyond physical nourishment, these activities fostered a sense of community, encouraged active participation, and supported emotional and social well-being. Participants experienced improved physical fitness, reduced stress and anxiety, and stronger interpersonal connections, showing the importance of recreation as a core element of wellness.
By integrating nutrition, education, and recreation, Project NutriFun addressed multiple dimensions of well-being, ensuring that participants not only improved their health but also strengthened social bonds and personal resilience. The initiative empowered individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles, build meaningful connections within their community, and take active steps toward their own well-being.
Through these efforts, Project NutriFun created a lasting impact, contributing to a healthier and more resilient community in Malued. The project demonstrates that holistic approaches, combining nutrition, education, and recreation can effectively enhance both physical and mental wellness while fostering stronger, more connected communities.
