The University of Luzon proudly co-hosted the 1st International Peace Education Seminar, a significant event that underscored the power of education, compassion, and understanding in promoting peace. This seminar, themed “Promoting Global Citizenship and Sustainable Peace Among NSTP Students,” convened various academic institutions to foster a deeper understanding of peace and its vital role in nation-building. The University of Luzon’s formal representation was led by Ms. Annabelle Bamba Cua, a distinguished Coordinator from the International Relations Office, who attended the in-person event held on September 8, 2025, at Urdaneta City University.

Beyond the official physical attendance, the University of Luzon also welcomed the participation of youth leaders and NSTP trainees who tuned in to the seminar’s Zoom component from the University’s multipurpose hall. This hybrid format ensured widespread access and underscored the University’s commitment to engaging the younger generation in critical dialogues about global citizenship. The seminar’s comprehensive program featured insightful discussions and presentations from keynote speakers, including Dr. Josephine Lambinicio and Atty. Michael Henry C. Sevilleja. The plenary session, conducted by Mr. Ingil Ra, Regional Representative for the Global Peace Foundation in the Asia-Pacific region, provided a global perspective on peace initiatives for all Luzonians, both present and online. The event also included addresses from Peace Corps Volunteer Leaders, Mr. Joshua C. Brown and Ms. Anne Nicole T. Tengson, underscoring the collaborative spirit of international engagement and highlighting how peace begins within and radiates outward to our families, communities, and the world.

Ms. Cua’s presence and the widespread student participation reaffirm the University of Luzon’s unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of peace and global citizenship. This active engagement signifies the university’s dedication to integrating global perspectives into its academic and co-curricular programs. By serving as torchbearers of unity, hope, and kindness, as the event’s ethos proclaimed, the students and faculty are at the forefront of contemporary global dialogues and equipped with the skills necessary to contribute to a more peaceful and sustainable world. This participation provides a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and networking, allowing the University to strengthen its ties with other educational institutions and international organizations.

The activities of the 1st International Peace Education Seminar directly align with several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, the seminar contributes to SDG 4, Quality Education, by promoting a curriculum that includes education for sustainable development and global citizenship. Furthermore, it supports SDG 16, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by fostering an environment of non-violence and advocating for peaceful, inclusive societies. The focus on collaboration and partnership among different institutions also reflects the spirit of SDG 17, Partnerships for the Goals. Through these efforts, the University of Luzon and its peers are actively working towards building a more just, peaceful, and sustainable future for all.
