In a display of profound civic duty and patriotism, the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Unit of the University of Luzon recently took part in a significant nationwide blood donation activity. The event, held on August 17, 2025, was organized by the Reserve Command (RESCOM) of the Philippine Army to celebrate its 42nd Anniversary.

The activity, titled “Dugong Buhay Aming Alay bilang mga Makabagong Bayani tungo sa Matatag na Sandigan ng Bagong Pilipinas” (The Gift of Life We Offer as Modern Heroes toward a Strong Foundation for a New Philippines), saw the University of Luzon’s ROTC cadets join forces with various military and community groups. The simultaneous RESCOM PA-wide Blood Donation Activity was conducted at the Headquarters of the 1st Regional Community Defense Group (1RCDG) at Camp Lt. Tito B. Abat in Manaoag, Pangasinan.

The participation of the University of Luzon ROTC cadets underscores the institution’s commitment to fostering a sense of social responsibility and service among its students. Through this selfless act, the cadets not only contributed to a critical healthcare need but also embodied the core values of the ROTC program: honor, patriotism, and duty. Their voluntary blood donations will help replenish the country’s blood supply, providing life-saving assistance to those in need, including patients undergoing surgery, accident victims, and individuals with chronic illnesses.

This initiative is a testament to the strong partnership between the University of Luzon and the Philippine Army’s Reserve Command. By engaging in such activities, Luzonians are given opportunities to become active participants in nation-building, demonstrating that true education extends beyond the classroom and into meaningful community engagement. The university takes immense pride in its cadets for their dedication and willingness to serve as modern-day heroes.

The University of Luzon’s involvement in the RESCOM blood donation activity aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative directly contributes to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by helping to ensure a stable and safe blood supply, which is a vital component of a resilient health system. Furthermore, it supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as it showcases a strong collaboration between an academic institution and a government agency for a common societal good. Through these actions, the University of Luzon continues to empower its students to be agents of positive change and to contribute meaningfully to a sustainable future.
