University of Luzon Hosts General Faculty Orientation on AI Integration
Posted on 1st of Jul 2025 by UL AdministratorThe University of Luzon today, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, successfully conducted its General Faculty Orientation, held at the University’s Multi-purpose Hall. The event, which ran from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, focused on the theme “Embracing AI in Education,” equipping Luzonians with essential knowledge and tools for integrating Artificial Intelligence into their pedagogical practices for the Academic Year 2025-2026.
The orientation commenced with registration and refreshing exercises, followed by a doxology, the Philippine National Anthem, and the UL Hymn. Prof. Tzarita Marie P. Mayo, Dean of the College of Medical Laboratory Science, Pharmacy and Biology, and Chair of University-Wide Activities, delivered the welcome address. University President Dr. Luis M. Samson, Jr. provided the President’s Message, setting the tone for a forward-looking academic year.
A significant highlight of the morning session was the Academic Thrusts for SY 2025-2026, presented by Dr. Aurora M. Samson-Reyna, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who elaborated on the theme of embracing AI in education.
Following a brief break, the program delved into the core subject of AI. Dr. Imelda E. Cuartel, Dean of the College of Education and Senior High School, presented on “AI in Curriculum and Instruction: Teaching Smarter in the Age of Intelligence.” This was followed by an open forum, allowing faculty members to engage in discussions and pose questions.
After a lunch break, the afternoon session featured Dr. Diosdado C. Caronongan, Dean of the College of Computer Studies, who spoke on “Generative AI and Prompt Engineering for Educators,” providing practical insights into leveraging advanced AI tools. Another open forum ensued, fostering further interaction and knowledge exchange.
The orientation concluded with the awarding of certificates of appreciation to the resource speakers and certificates of attendance to the participants. Dr. Amalia G. Dela Cruz, Dean of the College of Business Administration and Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Co-Host Department for University-Wide Activities, delivered the closing remarks. Prof. Anastacio B. Aquino served as the Emcee for the event. The program also included a photograph opportunity for each college.
This comprehensive orientation aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably SDG 4: Quality Education, by enhancing educators’ capabilities and integrating innovative technologies to improve learning outcomes. Furthermore, the focus on AI in education contributes to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by promoting technological advancement and fostering an innovative environment within the academic institution.
