The University of Luzon (UL) College of Nursing prominently showcased its commitment to research and academic excellence at the Philippine Nursing World Congress (PNWC) 2025, held at the Grand Men Seng Hotel in Davao City from June 26-27, 2025. The event saw significant contributions from both faculty and students, solidifying UL’s reputation in the field of nursing.

The first day of the congress featured a robust representation from the University of Luzon. A team of six brilliant student researchers—Luzonians Diamond Lambino, Jures Soriano, Vincent Tigno, Baby Amiah Tosh Corpuz, Kian Shane Pescador, and Kenneth Estrada—proudly presented their trailblazing research posters. Concurrently, Professor Jane Marffy Llamas delivered an insightful oral research presentation, demonstrating her profound expertise. The delegation was further strengthened by the presence of esteemed faculty delegates: Professor Ellen Gabriel, Professor Jennie Corpus, Professor Kristine Grace Bustillo, Ms. Gene Andrea Corpus, and Ms. Jelyn Soria, all of whom contributed to the vibrant exchange of knowledge and ideas.

The second day brought remarkable achievements for the University of Luzon. Professor Jane Marffy Llamas secured an impressive 4th place in the Oral Research Presentation category. Her timely and impactful study, titled “Psychological Correlates of Suicidal Ideation: Examining the Impact of Fatigue, Cognitive-Emotional Distress, and Academic Motivation,” garnered significant attention and recognition. Adding to the university’s accolades, fourth-year nursing student Diamond Lambino earned 2nd place in the Student Category of the Research Poster Presentation. His outstanding research, “Bridging Knowledge Gaps in Sexual and Reproductive Health: Implications for Education and Policy Interventions,” stood out among numerous submissions from various universities and institutions nationwide.

The congress also recognized the valuable contributions of other UL student researchers. Mark Vincent Tigno, Baby Amiah Tosh Corpuz, and Kian Shane Pescador presented their study on “The Influence of Extended Class Hours on Mental Fatigue and Academic Performance Among Nursing Students.” Additionally, Jures Soriano and Kenneth Rheniel Estrada shared their findings on “Stress Management Strategies Among Nursing Students: A Concurrent Mixed-Method Study.” These achievements underscore the dedication to scholarly inquiry fostered by the DEAN LLEGO RESEARCH PROGRAM, which continues to empower both students and faculty to reach new heights in nursing research and leadership.

The active participation and notable achievements of the University of Luzon at the Philippine Nursing World Congress 2025 align directly with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The focus on comprehensive research, particularly in areas such as mental health and reproductive health, contributes to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by advancing scientific understanding and informing interventions for improved health outcomes. The emphasis on high-quality education and research excellence for both students and faculty directly supports SDG 4: Quality Education, by fostering a culture of lifelong learning and innovation in the nursing profession. Furthermore, the collaborative environment and knowledge sharing promoted at the congress contribute to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by strengthening global and national collaborations essential for addressing complex health challenges and achieving sustainable development.
