The University of Luzon affirmed its deep-seated commitment to inclusivity and empowerment with the resounding success of the event, “Kulay at Laya: Honoring Women’s Heritage and the LGBTQIA+ Community.” Held on June 23, 2025, in the spacious and accessible setting of the 3rd Floor Library, this special gathering served as a dynamic nexus for potent dialogue and creative celebration, fostering a culture of acceptance and unity among the Luzonians and the wider academic community. The core objective of the initiative was to illuminate and honor the inherent strength, rich heritage, and diverse identities of both women and the LGBTQIA+ community, ensuring a genuinely safe and welcome environment for expression and connection.

The program was significantly elevated by the presence and inspiring counsel of two esteemed guest speakers. Ms. Angela Ruth P. Felicitas, RPm, LPT, and Mr. Jesus F. Dela Cruz Jr., RPm, delivered powerful and resonant messages to the assembly. Their addresses focused keenly on the principles of gender equality, the necessity of mutual respect, and the profound value of embracing the full spectrum of human diversity. Their expertise and passion provided invaluable perspective, reinforcing the university’s mission to cultivate globally aware and socially responsible citizens. The atmosphere generated throughout the day was one of collective pride and dedicated community building, clearly demonstrating the University of Luzon’s dedication to advocating for the rights and recognition of all individuals.

This impactful initiative was meticulously orchestrated through a concerted partnership among several key campus organizations. The Guidance Center took the lead in collaboration with the student organizations Psychenosi and the Youth Peer Organization. Furthermore, the successful execution of the event is a testament to the dedication of the OJT Psychology Interns – Batch 2025, whose meticulous efforts ensured a welcoming, secure, and thoughtfully organized space. Their dedication was crucial in facilitating open dialogue and reinforcing the core message of equality and non-discrimination. By combining the evocative spirit of Kulay (color) and the liberating principle of Laya (freedom), the University of Luzon continues to champion empowerment and unconditional love in all its manifestations, setting a commendable standard for higher education institutions in the region.

The “Kulay at Laya” event stands as a palpable demonstration of the University of Luzon’s active contribution toward achieving the global mandate of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, the initiative directly advances SDG 5: Gender Equality by centering discussions on women’s heritage and equality, promoting female empowerment, and challenging restrictive gender norms. By advocating for the recognition and rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and ensuring an inclusive space for all participants, the event substantially furthers SDG 10: Reduced Inequality, actively working to combat discrimination based on identity. Finally, the successful collaboration between the Guidance Center, student groups, and academic departments exemplifies SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals. This inter-organizational synergy demonstrates how shared commitment and unified action within the educational sphere are essential mechanisms for driving large-scale, sustainable social progress.
