What the University expects from the employees

Whenever one works in any organization, occasionally there is bound to be misunderstandings with co-employees, conflicts with superiors regarding work schedules, workload, appointment, instructions, arguments with students, parents, etc. Employees are advised to discuss their problems in a friendly manner with their immediate superior who is in the best position to help them.

However, if they believe that the problem cannot be talked over satisfactorily with their immediate supervisor, they are encouraged to see the Personnel Office. The Personnel Officer will attempt to resolve the problem with great dispatch.

If it is not resolved within five (5) days from receipt of the grievance, it shall be forwarded to the Grievance Committee for arbitration. Two arbitrators shall be chosen by the University, two by the employees and the fifth shall be jointly chosen by the first four members who shall be the Chairman. The committee shall meet within five (5) days from receipt of the problem and must render its report within ten (10) days from the start of the deliberation.

1. Courtesy. The employee represents the University of Luzon whenever he deals with students, visitors, parents, and faculty members and the general public, either personally or through the telephone. The employee is, therefore, expected to be courteous at all times.

2. Punctuality in Attendance. The inter-relationship of the various departments and their dependence on one another require the employees’ presence in their respective offices at scheduled hours.

3. Honesty. This trait is especially related to custody and disposition of office supplies, office equipment, use of time, handling of money and other valuable articles on campus.

4. Trustworthiness. Working in a Univrsity exposes employees to confidential matters: examination results, admission test results, test questions, accounting and personnel records, correspondence, etc. which should be kept under strict confidence. In matters pertaining to trust and confidentiality of their work, friendship should never be prejudicial to the employees’ loyalty owed to the University.

5. Punctuality and Reliability in the Accomplishment of Assigned Tasks. The employees are expected to accomplish accurately and punctually their assigned tasks, if possible ahead of the target time and date.

6. Office Behavior. Employees are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner while at work and while on campus. Boisterous laughter and unruly behavior should be avoided

7. Good Housekeeping. Office areas should be neat and tidy. At the end of each day, employees should make sure that files and records are in their proper places, office machines are covered and lights, airconditioning units and other appliances are turned off. Office doors should be secured whenever employees leave their offices any time during the day. Valuables should not be left lying around. They should be kept under lock and key. The University of Luzon will not be responsible for the personal money and valuables kept by employees in their desk or cabinet. Personal valuables should be kept at home.

8. Personal Grooming. Good personal grooming simple means reporting to office in proper attire (e.g. official uniform). Cleanliness is, of course, not taken for granted. When one works closely in offices, personal cleanliness becomes a must. For good grooming and clothing, the general rule is AVOID EXTREMES.”

9. Dependability. A dependable employee does his work and knows that he is responsible for it. His superior is certain that he will do the job well. A dependable employee will call or inform his office if he cannot report for work and will stick to the job and finish it even when unforeseen events arise.

10. Initiative. An employee is expected to be on the alert for better ways of doing things without being told. He is quick to improvise. If he is in doubt, he seeks enlightenment from his superiors.

11. Consideration of Others:

a) A considerate employee finds time to help co-employees who are deep in work. This invariably leads to higher morale, smoother office teamwork, and greater productivity.

b) Consideration for friends and co-employees involves not only friendly conversation with them but also respect for their rights to undisturbed work privacy. Employees who like to listen to the radio, whistle, sing or hum while working, could do so for their enjoyment but never so loud as to disturb others.

c) Office telephones are intended for business use and calls should be as brief as effective communication will permit. Though it may be impossible to avoid social calls, such calls should be limited both as to frequency and duration. In using the phone, one should speak softly and courteously, and return the phone to its carriage gently after using it.

d)Office equipment must not be taken off campus without the specific and written recommendation of the Section Head concerned and the approval of the Vice President for Administration.
