The University of Luzon College of Nursing (ULCON) has consistently demonstrated its commitment to community service and public health. Over the past academic year (2022-2023), ULCON students and faculty have actively participated in various outreach programs, leaving a lasting impact on numerous communities.

One of the flagship programs, Ngiting Bata, focused on promoting oral health among daycare children. By organizing dental check-ups, oral hygiene education, and toothbrushing demonstrations, ULCON aimed to instill healthy oral habits in the youngest members of the community. This initiative not only improved the oral health of these children but also empowered them to make informed choices about their dental well-being.

Another significant program, Asukal at Dugo Mo, Sagot Ko, targeted Barangay Health Workers (BHWs). Recognizing the crucial role of BHWs in primary healthcare, ULCON conducted training sessions to enhance their knowledge and skills in monitoring blood pressure and blood glucose levels. By equipping BHWs with the necessary tools and expertise, the program aimed to improve early detection and management of hypertension and diabetes mellitus in their respective communities.

The Nanay ng Lima program addressed the pressing issue of family planning and reproductive health. ULCON reached out to mothers of five or more children, providing them with essential information and counseling on family planning methods and contraceptives. By empowering these mothers to make informed choices about family size, the program aimed to improve maternal and child health outcomes and contribute to sustainable population growth.

In line with its commitment to sustainable development, ULCON also launched the Gulayan Para sa Barangay program. This initiative encouraged community members to establish vegetable gardens, promoting self-sufficiency, healthy eating, and environmental sustainability. By providing technical assistance, seeds, and organic fertilizers, ULCON empowered communities to grow their own food and reduce reliance on store-bought produce.

Through these impactful outreach programs, the University of Luzon College of Nursing has not only fulfilled its social responsibility but has also provided invaluable opportunities for its students to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. These experiences have undoubtedly enhanced their clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and compassion for others.

As we move forward, ULCON remains dedicated to serving the community and making a positive difference in the lives of others. By continuing to implement innovative and sustainable outreach programs, the College of Nursing will continue to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change.

Let us commend the unwavering dedication of our faculty, staff, and students who have made these remarkable achievements possible. Together, we can build a healthier, happier, and more sustainable future for all.
