Rights, Privileges, and Fringe Benefits

A. RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES

Section 1.

ACADEMIC FREEDOM

University of Luzon subscribes to the following tenet of academic freedom

as generally adopted by colleges and universities, here and abroad:

  • 1.1 The teacher is entitled to full academic freedom in the publication of the research output related to this major field of specialization.
  • 1.2 The teacher is entitled to full academic freedom in the classroom in discussing his subject. He should, however, be careful not to introduce into his teaching controversial matters which have no direct relation to his subject.

Section 2.

FACULTY RIGHTS

Every faculty member is entitled to the following rights within the context

of statutory laws and academic freedom.

  • 2.1 To have a clear statement of the terms of employment
  • 2.2 To expect that teaching assignment will be within his/ her areas of professional competence and that when new courses are assigned, he/she will be given reasonable advance notice so that proper preparation may be done.
  • 2.3 To have sufficient time to teach, to study, to prepare, and to evaluate the results of this teaching.
  • 2.4 To expect from the university authorities reasonable facilities essential to effective instruction.
  • 2.5 To be secured in the knowledge that the university authorities shall protect him from unnecessary interferences and unwarranted distractions in the performance of his academic duties and extra-curricular activities.
  • 2.6 To receive reasonable rewards for his teaching in terms of salary, rank, recognition, and fringe benefits as made ayalable by the school, as wel as opportunities for professional growth and assistance for research
    activities if needed.
  • 2.7 To receive a fair and just consideration for promotion in rank and salary based on clearly-stated criteria.
  • 2.8 To have a clear, written statement of conditions which will apply at the time of retirement, including compensation and fringe benefits.
  • 2.9 To communicate through appropriate channels with higher administrative authorities, concerning matters of professional concern.

Section 3.

Due Process. In any proceeding against him which may result in disciplinary action such as demotion in rank, reduction in salary, suspension without pay, or termination of service, a Faculty Member has the right to (1) be informed in writing of the evidence against him; (3) adequate time to prepare his defense; (4) answer the complaint in writing; (5) defend himself before an Investigation Committee; (6) speedy disposition of his case; ( 7) be informed of the decision in writing and (8) appeal the decision to the proper authorities.

B. FRINGE BENEFITS

Section 4.

MEDICAL AND DENTAL SERVICE

The institution shall provide all tenured faculty and full-time regular faculty members medical and dental services in the form of free chest X-ray, (if required by the institution). Physical examination, and a free dental prophylactic service once a year and emergency tooth extraction whenever necessary.

Section 5.

HOSPITALIZATION BENEFITS

All regular employees shall be entitled to hospitalization benefits at the Luzon Medical Center, a subsidiary of the University of Luzon.

For single regular employees, hospitalization benefits shall include parents, brothers and sisters below 18 years old who are unemployed. For married regular employees, it shall include their legal spouses and their legitimate children who are below 18 years old and are unemployed.

For in-patient/s the following discounts will apply:

a) 20% – Room Charges b)

b) 20% – Laboratory Charges

c) 10% – Chest Xray and Ultrasound

No discount for all other special procedures for xray

Out-patients however, are only entitled for the following

  1. 10% – for CBC, urinalysis and fecalysis
  2. 10% – for all other laboratory services except x-ray and ultrasound

Section 6.

EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS

  • 6.1 As a special benefit, regular faculty members are given 50% discount on the regular tuition fee if enrolled at University of Luzon Graduate School.
  • 6.2 Probationary faculty members are given 50% discount on tuition fees if enrolled at University of Luzon Graduate School, or in the undergraduate level if taking another major or professional education subjects) after at least one school year of full-time teaching in University of Luzon, provided they are also teaching in the university during the semester they enjoy such benefit.
  • 6.3 Part-time undergraduate faculty members with at least 6 units of teaching load may avail of an educational benefit 25% discount on tuition fees at the UL Graduate School at the discretion of the Administration during the semester they are teaching at UL.
  • 6.4 Legitimate and legally-adopted sons/daughters of tenured and regular faculty members are given 50% discount on regular tuition fee per semester in any curriculum level at University of Luzon, up to maximum total of four (4) children.
