The University of Luzon (UL) has forged a significant international partnership with Kookmin University (KMU), a renowned institution based in Seoul, South Korea. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), was signed on September 26 by Dr. Carmelo John E. Vidal, Dean of the Graduate School at UL, and Prof. Byoung Joon Kim, Dean of the Graduate School for Global Peace & Unification and Director for Globalization at KMU.

Representing both UL and the Philippine Society of NSTP Educators and Implementors, Inc. (PSNEI), Dr. Vidal was accompanied by Executive Director Cathy Lagadia of National University (NU), Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria of Universidad de Manila, and Prof. Elyxzur Ramos of the University of Makati. Notably, UL was the only higher education institution from outside Manila participating in this collaboration.

The MoU between UL and KMU signifies a strategic alliance aimed at fostering academic exchange, research collaboration, and student mobility. The partnership will provide opportunities for faculty and students from both institutions to engage in joint research projects, participate in academic conferences, and pursue graduate studies.

In addition to the MoU signing, Dr. Vidal presented a research paper at the International Forum on One Korea, organized by Global Peace Foundation. His presentation focused on the importance of integrating peace education into the National Service Training Program (NSTP) and higher education institutions (HEIs). This aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which aims to promote peace, justice, and strong institutions.

The partnership between UL and KMU is a significant milestone for both institutions. It not only expands UL’s international reach but also strengthens its commitment to academic excellence and global engagement. By collaborating with a prestigious university like KMU, UL is providing its students and faculty with invaluable opportunities for growth and development.

The University of Luzon takes immense pride in this partnership and looks forward to the many benefits it will bring to both institutions. This collaboration is a testament to UL’s dedication to fostering international cooperation and promoting academic excellence.
