University of Luzon Students Embark on a Transformative Journey with the Hybrid Asia Exploration (Hax) Program

In an era marked by globalization and digital interconnectedness, students at the University of Luzon (UL) are taking a leap towards expanding their horizons through the Hybrid Asia Exploration (Hax) Program. This unique initiative combines online and onsite experiences, providing an immersive opportunity for UL students to engage with peers from Asian countries, fostering cross-cultural understanding, and enhancing their academic and personal growth.

Bridging the Gap: Onsite and Online Adventures
The Hax COIL Program offers a dynamic fusion of onsite and online experiences, allowing students to select the mode that aligns with their learning preferences and circumstances. Five passionate members from the UL College of Computer Science will venture to Surabaya, Indonesia, for an onsite adventure. Meanwhile, ten members from the UL College of Engineering will embark on their digital exploration online.

Active Engagement in Hax COIL Program
The College of Computer Science and College of Engineering and Architecture-AIT at UL have been actively engaged in the Hax Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Program since its inception. The inaugural COIL sessions, held from June 16 to July 7, 2023, set the stage for the collaborative spirit that would shape their subsequent Hax experiences.
Culminating in Surabaya, Indonesia

As the Hax Program enters its second and final session, UL students from both departments eagerly prepare for an unforgettable experience. The program’s grand finale will unfold in Surabaya, Indonesia, hosted at the prestigious Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) from September 15 to 21. This historic city promises to be the backdrop for an extraordinary week of learning, cultural immersion, and personal growth.

UL College of Computer Science: Representing Onsite
The UL College of Computer Science team has been selected to represent the university onsite in Surabaya. Led by Engr. Diosdado Caronongan, the dean of the College of Computer Studies, and Professor Lorenzo Camacho, the faculty of Computer Studies, this dedicated group includes students YC Marie G. Mallare, Rizanne Mae D. Fernandez, and Jean Joyce D. Magallones. Together, they will delve into the histories and cultures of Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia during their seven-day immersive experience. Their itinerary is packed with exciting activities, including technology showcases, a city tour of Surabaya, and visits to Surabaya Smart Urban Farming, cultural presentations and so on, providing a rich blend of learning and exploration.

UL College of Engineering: The Online Expedition
The UL College of Engineering team, participating online, is composed of dedicated faculty members, including Ron Neil Raineer Estrada, Ayra Jean Abarabar, Melvin Jovellanos, Hapilen Dacasin, and Angelo Aquino, alongside students Chelsea Patawaran, Erick Nikolai Guiang, Genesis Niño, Giovanni Tan, and Rolan Marko Taoatao. They, too, will delve into the vibrant cultures and knowledge of Asia, strengthening their global perspectives through virtual collaboration.
