University of Luzon Encourages Open Conversations in the Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness Program
Posted on 15th of Oct 2026 by UL AdministratorOpen conversations can help challenge misconceptions about suicide, reduce stigma, and encourage people to approach mental health concerns with understanding and compassion. In celebration of Mental Health Month, the University of Luzon promoted suicide prevention awareness and the importance of creating a supportive community through education and creative expression.
On October 7, 2026, the University, through its Guidance Office, Youth Peer Organization, and Psychenosi, partnered with the Department of Health – Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center Dagupan for a Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness Program. The activity carried the theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide.”
The morning session featured an informative and interactive podcast that encouraged students to discuss suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Through shared insights and active participation, the discussion challenged misconceptions and emphasized the importance of listening without judgment.
In the afternoon, students expressed their perspectives through a Poster and Slogan-Making Contest, Spoken Poetry, and Infomercial/Advocacy Video-Making Contest. These activities gave participants opportunities to use their creativity to raise awareness, address stigma, and encourage more understanding conversations about mental health.
The program emphasized the importance of building a community where people feel heard, respected, and supported when facing mental health concerns. Through open dialogue and compassion, the University of Luzon continues to promote understanding and awareness of suicide prevention.
The program supports efforts to improve mental well-being, promote inclusion, and strengthen community cooperation in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being is advanced through suicide prevention education and greater awareness of mental health concerns. SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities is supported by challenging stigma and promoting social inclusion for people experiencing mental health difficulties. SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals is advanced through the collaboration between the University and the Department of Health – Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center Dagupan.
