Statistics help explain how tourism supports local communities, creates employment opportunities, and shapes the development of sustainable destinations. Through data and research, communities and decision-makers can better understand tourism trends and identify ways to improve the industry.

The University of Luzon joins the nation in celebrating the 37th National Statistics Month, carrying the theme “Tuklas Pilipinas: Statistics as Beacon Towards Inclusive, Resilient, and Sustainable Tourism.” The celebration highlights the value of reliable statistics in understanding the country’s tourism industry and supporting informed decisions.

The Philippine Statistics Authority, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, will lead the month-long celebration from October 1 to 28, 2026. The activities focus on the use of tourism data in national and local planning, destination development, and efforts to promote sustainable tourism.

Among the planned activities is a series of four webinars scheduled every Monday throughout October. These sessions will discuss how statistics guide tourism policies, help communities understand local tourism trends, and support the planning and management of destinations. Other activities will introduce participants to the Philippine Statistical System, its services, and opportunities for youth engagement. The celebration will conclude with a closing ceremony.

Through its participation in this national celebration, the University of Luzon promotes statistical literacy and awareness of how data can guide tourism planning and development.

These efforts support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through education, employment awareness, and responsible destination planning. SDG 4: Quality Education is advanced by promoting statistical knowledge and lifelong learning. SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth is supported by understanding how tourism contributes to employment and local livelihoods. SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities is promoted through the use of tourism data in planning inclusive, resilient, and sustainable destinations.
