Medical Laboratory Science students at the University of Luzon gained practical experience in phlebotomy through a seminar and hands-on workshop held on September 17, 2026, at the University’s 3rd Floor Library.

Organized through the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists, Inc. Junior Chapter (PAMET Jr.) as part of MedTech Week, the activity provided trainees with an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge and develop skills relevant to their future profession.

The program opened with a message from Prof. Tzarita Marie P. Mayo, RMT, RPh, MPhar, Dean of the College of Medical Laboratory Science, Pharmacy, and Biology. Alexis Navarro Marquez, RMT, MPH, discussed the foundations of phlebotomy, while Ms. Krisnna De Mille G. Mariano, RMT, explained the workshop mechanics and safety guidelines before the practical session.

Ten newly registered Medical Technologists from the department also served as facilitators during the hands-on activities. They guided the students through the exercises and shared their experiences and messages as newly licensed professionals. Bryan Adriel Basuyan g served as the Master of Ceremony, guiding the program through its different segments until the awarding and closing.

The University of Luzon recognizes the value of practical training in preparing future healthcare professionals for their responsibilities. The activity also highlighted the importance of learning from experienced practitioners and applying proper procedures in laboratory work.

The workshop supports the University’s efforts to provide relevant education and promote safe healthcare practices. It contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being by reinforcing safe phlebotomy practices that help protect human health, and SDG 4: Quality Education by providing practical learning opportunities that strengthen students’ professional knowledge and skills.
