Civil Engineering students gained practical knowledge and new perspectives on infrastructure, engineering, and urban planning during the 1st PICE-ULSC Conference 2026, held on September 19, 2026.

The conference took place at the University of Luzon Multi-purpose Hall, bringing together students for a day of learning and professional exchange organized by the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers University of Luzon Student Chapter (PICE-ULSC).

With the theme “Safe Ground, Secure Water, Smart Cities: Engineering and Planning for Resilient Communities,” the gathering explored the role of engineering and careful planning in building safer and more sustainable communities. The discussions also provided students with insights they can apply to their professional education and future careers.

The conference featured Engr. Mark Harvey Tayag, Engr. Joseph Patrick Rosal, Engr. Jordan Untalan, Arch. Melchor Serapion, and Engr. Rommeljon Leonen. Through their shared expertise and experiences, the speakers helped broaden students’ understanding of infrastructure development, disaster prevention, and the challenges faced by growing urban areas.

The University of Luzon extends its appreciation to the speakers for sharing their knowledge and to CEA Dean Engr. Geronimo A. Carvajal and the College of Engineering and Architecture for supporting the students and the successful conduct of the conference.

The conference reflects the University of Luzon’s support for quality education and sustainable development. It contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by promoting practical learning and awareness of sustainable infrastructure and community planning. By providing practical learning opportunities that strengthen students’ knowledge and skills, it advances SDG 4: Quality Education. Discussions on infrastructure and innovative engineering solutions contribute to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. Insights into urban planning and disaster prevention support SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by promoting safer and more resilient communities.
