Luzonian Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Benedict M. Uson
A Four-Time UL Graduate Making a Global Impact in Education and Journalism
The University of Luzon proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of one of its most distinguished alumni, Dr. Benedict M. Uson, a passionate educator, researcher, journalism mentor, and international academic whose success story continues to inspire Luzonians around the world.
Born and raised in Mangaldan, Pangasinan, Dr. Uson exemplifies the values of excellence, perseverance, and lifelong learning that the University of Luzon seeks to instill in every student. A proud four-time graduate of the University of Luzon, he has consistently demonstrated academic distinction throughout his educational journey.
His impressive academic credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy in Development Education (Magna Cum Laude), a Master of Arts in Education major in English (Magna Cum Laude), and a Bachelor of Science in Education major in English (Cum Laude). He is currently completing his second doctoral degree, a PhD in English Language Education, further strengthening his expertise and commitment to educational advancement.
Today, Dr. Uson serves as an educator in both public and international schools in Taipei City, Taiwan, including Taipei Municipal Shezi Elementary School, Taipei Municipal Dalong Elementary School, and Hua Wen International School. Beyond his teaching responsibilities abroad, he also shares his knowledge as a part-time graduate school professor in various universities and colleges in the Philippines.
His influence extends beyond the classroom. Dr. Uson is an internationally recognized research presenter and awardee whose scholarly work contributes significantly to the global academic community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also played a vital role in supporting Philippine education by serving as a module writer for Senior High School English subjects for Rex Bookstore, Inc., helping ensure the continuity of quality learning during a challenging period in history.
Among his most remarkable accomplishments is his exceptional record in journalism education. A celebrated journalism teacher-coach, Dr. Uson is a three-time National Champion Journalism Teacher-Coach of the Philippines in Scriptwriting and Radio Broadcasting competitions during the Department of Education’s National Schools Press Conferences held in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Ormoc City, Leyte; and Olongapo City, Zambales.
His dedication to student development has earned him numerous distinctions, including being named Most Outstanding School Paper Adviser in the Ilocos Region and receiving the prestigious Hall of Fame Award in Journalism in Dagupan City after leading his teams to five consecutive years as undefeated overall champions in journalism competitions.
With teaching experience spanning preschool to graduate school and more than five years of international teaching service, Dr. Uson has successfully mentored students to nearly 1,000 victories in division, regional, and national journalism competitions. Through his work, he has empowered young learners to develop critical communication skills, creativity, leadership, and excellence in the 21st century.
Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Uson attributes much of his success to the education and values he received from the University of Luzon.
